Art & Life with Angel Alexis Rodriguez

Today we’d like to introduce you to Angel Alexis Rodriguez.

Angel Alexis, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
Born and raised in Mexico City, Angel Alexis has been a creator since nine years old when he picked up his first guitar and started writing and composing his own music. During his teenage years, he played as a touring singer and guitarist throughout Mexico. His journey led him to school in Switzerland to study music, Fermatta in Mexico City, and later at Berklee College of Music in Boston where he got his Bachelors degree in Music Production and Audio Engineering. Angel, better known as Alexis has received a wealth of training from academia and is consistent in keeping up with the contemporary audio culture and technological advancements. He runs a studio and small independent label called Silver Gun Records based out of Echo Park in Los Angeles. Currently, Alexis focuses on producing, writing, recording, mixing, and performing in collaboration with artists of various styles. He follows his own structure and has plenty of space for the magic of spontaneity.

Can you give our readers some background on your art?
I am compelled to make sounds and arrange them in patterns, rhythms, beats, and melodies. The essence of making music lies within the intricate creative process(es).

The process has to include an emotion, a tone, a feeling, an abstract vision through musical notes.

The message is to listen with your heart and let your intuition and experience guide you. I hope people take away authenticity and true craftsmanship.

Do you think conditions are generally improving for artists? What more can cities and communities do to improve conditions for artists?
There is more opportunity today for your music to be heard by a larger audience than there has ever been in the past. You must be original and have great ideas if you want to stand out amongst the sea of artists. In my opinion, life has become easier because prior to the internet, very few people had the opportunity to be an artist. The internet is an infinite stage. Cities can help and encourage art with local initiatives focused around various mediums while integrating key organizations in their city. Designing art programs around the youth is one of the best gifts of hope and future.
