Art & Life with Angela Gilmore

Today we’d like to introduce you to Angela Gilmore.

Angela, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
I am a 26-year-old Florida Native; however, I was born in Cairo, Egypt, and was raised in Israel until I was 7. I then moved to St. Augustine, FL for a few years but then made one last move to Key West. It was there that I had actually became a part of the Foster Care System for several years due to unfortunate family events. I was blessed to have found my adoptive family through Foster Care, who shaped me into the outgoing, creative person I am today!

Key West became my home. It was where I met and married my amazing husband, Michael.
Shortly after, due to him being in the U.S Navy, we were relocated to sunny San Diego. We have been here for a few years now and will be expecting our first baby next month! The military lifestyle has made me adjust to several changes and has given me time to discover my passion for photography.

Can you give our readers some background on your art?
I am a part-time photographer as of right now; eventually, the dream would be to take this passion Full time! I am a firm believer of body positivity, family, and that love you can’t live without; romantic or platonic. Natural light and Golden hour are my go-to’s. I’ve had the honor of photographing: Engagements, Maternity, Newborns, Boudoir, Elopements, and Homecomings. This is why I’ve chosen the name Proteas. Like the flower, I transform to meet the needs and wants of my clients. What I hope people take away from my photography is the passion captured in each photograph. The simple, yet raw emotion through each moment is exactly why I absolutely love what I do. When people look back at their photos I hope they get that exact feeling as the day of; that first kiss in 8 months, that beloved ‘I Do’ and the empowered feeling you had at your Session!

Any advice for aspiring or new artists?
Yes! Do NOT compare yourself to others. There are so many creative minds out in the world, and if you learn to support one another and encourage each other, you will find yourself constantly developing. Also, in the world of photography, you’re never truly ‘Done’ there’s always something to grow from, so be humble. Your work and passion will speak for itself.

What’s the best way for someone to check out your work and provide support?
My work can be viewed through my Instagram and Facebook Photography page. I’m trying to iron out my website, so that’s still a working progress but will definitely be up and running soon!
