Art & Life with Angelo David Russo

Today we’d like to introduce you to Angelo David Russo.

Angelo David Russo aims to change the way people experience surrealism by creating textured and sculptural mixed media paintings with surrealist and cubist influences. Mentored by Leopold Plotek at Concordia University, it was in 2012 that Russo developed his signature style by using collage and tape-resist techniques. Russo explores themes of the human psyche and subconscious, while continuously experimenting with various techniques and materials. Russo strives to create works that are engaging and thought-provoking while continuing to evolve through the exploration of techniques and materials.

Can you give our readers some background on your art?
My body of work is loosely based on the Dialogical Self Round Table theory by Hubert Hermans (1992). My series can be divided into multiple autonomous “I” positions, which voice my artistic expression from various perspectives. My works consist of mixed media paintings and digital drawings strongly influenced by surrealism, cubism, and geometric abstraction. The subject of my works touches on psychology, the exploration of the self and how it relates to modern day society. The objective is to strengthen the bond between humans by gaining a greater sense of perspective through the internal exploration of our extended minds.
