Today we’d like to introduce you to Charlie Rae.

Charlie, an American Rock Music, singer-songwriter has crafted a name for herself on social media. Her recordings, along with her feisty down-home personality, has resonated widely with audiences around the world. Born & raised in Phoenix, AZ, Charlie has been playing and writing since she was 7 years old. “My only purpose as an artist is to bring life back to music”- Charlie Rae. She has become a well-known artist amongst a young fan base, and her success in social media has not stopped with millions of page views.

Can you give our readers some background on your art?
I’m a professional singer songwriter for the past 15 years. originally from Phoenix… I create because it’s what I was born to do, the only way I feel magic in a sometimes color-less world. One of my quotes for my first album is

“The album is the simplicity of unending emotions running like sweet poison, so deep, thicker than blood and wine. These songs are lustful, distasteful, and intensely created from raw energies and carefully-crafted passion.” I write every song with only pure emotion. They’re my stories, my feelings, my heart. They are my life.

Do you think conditions are generally improving for artists? What more can cities and communities do to improve conditions for artists?
Very difficult, people are not caring about quality art anymore, they just want a decent beat and meaningless lyrics… I’m trying to bring life back into music, to make you feel something again. To get off your phone and close your eyes and see the colors behind the notes, feel the goosebumps on your skin when I hit a certain note and breathe in deep as the chords settle in.

We need a bigger scene for original artists like Nashville or Austin. They only care about cover bands with corny music while drunk people sway around to it. There’s no art or passion. It’s dead in San Diego when it comes to music. Sure, it’s easier with social media but original artists are having to settle for doing covers just to get attention to their work. it’s sad. A real uphill climb.
