Art & Life with Hoai Dang-Lachance

Today we’d like to introduce you to Hoai Dang-Lachance.

Hoai, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
I am a mixed media artist who’s always had a passion for creating and attracted to innovation and pioneering.
At a young age I discovered my happy place was to express and create, having graciously evolved to designing ladies accessories and wearables to retail. Not only is creating a desire but a necessary path towards serenity and balance amidst a frenzied corporate life and schedule.

I draw inspiration from the ebb and flow of colour and the surroundings and emotions felt from past and present journeys. As journeys evolve, my body of work will in no doubt be ever changing and reflective. The ability to express and transform something from nothing, into something that’s unique and extraordinary to me means engaging in my own sense of peace and tranquility.

Can you give our readers some background on your art?
My body of work is predominately abstract expressionism paintings and art wearables. My body of work fluctuates from fluid to directionally controlled, using soft to vibrant colour palettes, creating varied forms of depth.

Although I’m open to incorporating various elements, I tend to gravitate towards mixed media and the use of mediums including but not limiting to acrylics, alcohol inks, resin, oils, wood, canvas.
I appreciate the forgiveness and freedom of such materials as I can freely flex my creation to reflect my end vision.

Embracing the moment and just letting go, allows my art to freely flow without restriction and inhibition.
Coupling such actions and bridging emotion with my love for converging colour and layering mixed mediums, has enabled me to cultivate and translate my abstract expressions.

Art to me is my own form of expression and path to mindfulness and diversity through the language of colour.
With this, I hope my creations will bring joy and enable those who embrace it the opportunity to conjure up inspiration through their own past, present and even future journeys as they are experienced.

Do you think conditions are generally improving for artists? What more can cities and communities do to improve conditions for artists?
Conditions for artists today have improved, with the aid of current social media reach, an increased sense of community and overall public embrace of the arts in all forms.

Life in general has become easier for artists, as the audience for original artwork is positively increasing. A similar correlation is occurring from the venues side, as there are more businesses and galleries opening up, which welcome diverse artwork to be exhibited and showcased.

To encourage and help art and artists thrive, cities can create events and festivals initiatives that incorporate the arts. Additional avenues of encouragement may come from increasing community and business awareness and partnerships with artists and art associations, to further envelop the arts. This may be accomplished by means of yearly call out to artists, with monthly rotating showcase opportunities within such businesses.  Cooperatives may be built with just about any establishment… local cafes, corporate businesses to municipalities.

What’s the best way for someone to check out your work and provide support?
Currently my body of work may be found on Instagram and Facebook and business establishments. I’ll be launching my website shortly and expanding more into retail. I exhibit at different venues and events throughout the year, so please stay tuned via Instagram and Facebook for upcoming showcases.

I am forever grateful and thankful for all who support me and appreciate the expression of art. I am always honored to receive inquiries about commissioned work and partnerships, as this enables me to create artwork fused from cooperative synergy. The reward in itself is twofold. One… to create a mindful path. Two… to create expressive artwork that brings brightness, energy and compliments a space and those who appreciate it.
