Art & Life with Kathleen Geiberger

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kathleen Geiberger.

Kathleen, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
I’ve always been interested in Art. I grew up with a super artistic mom and a dad who played golf on tour with a bit of a photography hobby. He taught all of my siblings and I all about composition, etc. so we all took a liking to it. I always loved it, but I actually started off my career as a painter with a photography hobby on the side, hence the name Kathleen Geiberger Art! (Which I’ve never had the heart to change, because photography is art too, right?!) When I met my husband, he helped me figure out that photography is definitely a career option and was always there supporting me. After I had that little push, it just took off, and the rest is history! I’d like to think I incorporate a bit of my love of color from painting into my photography.

Can you give our readers some background on your art?
I get to create and capture so many amazing moments by photographing engagements and weddings! The fact that I get to convey people’s love stories with my little spin on it is such an honor. I truly get “activated” when I’m photographing a wedding. I really just love what I do. I always joke that I feel nothing until the end of the day. It could be 125 degrees out or insanely cold… but I just get so caught up in capturing the love and the moments unfolding in front of me, that I feel nothing until the day is over. I hope that all of my couples have a family heirloom of beautiful photos to pass down to their children and I hope they are confident that those heirlooms really convey who they were and their love when they got married!

What would you recommend to an artist new to the city, or to art, in terms of meeting and connecting with other artists and creatives?
I think that conditions have become both easier and harder for artists in the world today. You’re able to reach out to such a large audience via social media, but that also comes at a price. There are SO many talented artists in the world, and you really have to have something special to stand out. Sometimes this can devalue artists work because it seems like its everywhere. The community can help artists thrive by hiring them! Buy paintings, hire photographers for your special moments, display work that you love, and use your power of referrals to spread the love.

What’s the best way for someone to check out your work and provide support?
People can see my work by going to my website or my Instagram @KathleenGeiberger, and you can support me by referring me to awesome couples that are getting married! A kind word is always the best support!
