Art & Life with Katie Irvin

Today we’d like to introduce you to Katie Irvin.

Katie, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
Last November, I decided to learn a craft I had always wanted to try. The holidays were coming up, and I didn’t want to put a hole in my pocketbook. I wanted my family and friends to receive something unique and one of a kind. I learned how to make small wall hangings and plant hangers. After the holidays passed, I began getting approached to create different home decor items as well as wedding backdrops. With some encouragement from friends and family. I pursued this fun and fulfilling craft by opening up an online store, participating in pop up markets and teaching workshops to others that wanted to learn. It’s been a year of macrame and a year I’m happy I spent pursuing this path. I can’t wait to see where I’ll be this time next year.

Can you give our readers some background on your art?
When people look at the macrame, I create. Whether, it’s a small wall hanging, intricate plant hanger or a large scale backdrop. I hope they smile. I don’t want anything else. Just a simple smile. Why? Because of no matter who you are. A smile is beautiful and, goodness does this world need more of that! I care about people and want them to feel that. I’ve seen some faces light up when they took my work and to me that’s everything.

Any advice for aspiring or new artists?
When things are the hardest, the payoff tends to be the greatest! So many times I’ve wanted to give up and throw in the towel and when I end up pushing through it, I know I can take it up a notch the next time. So never stop selling yourself.

What’s the best way for someone to check out your work and provide support?
If you would like to view any of my work. Please visit my Etsy store at, Instagram and on Facebook at loops and petals.
