Art & Life with Miriam Rojas

Today we’d like to introduce you to Miriam Rojas.

Miriam, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
I was born and raised in California. My Father is a glass artist, so he introduced me to his colorful glass art at a very young age. He loves working with color in his glass creations. Now for my paper flowers, I love working with all colors. It reminds me of all my father’s stained glass art.

In 2016 my friend introduced me to Paper Flowers. I fell in love with a gorgeous paper flower the moment I saw one! My friend had an idea for me to create paper flowers for his Photo booth business. I built an 8’x8′ Paper flower wall for him. It was a success, and now I have my own Etsy shop where I get to create beautiful paper flowers for all kinds of events.

I work from home which means I am a stay home mom with my two loving children. I usually work alone, but this turns into the family business. Where I have my sister, husband, and daughter helping me with rush orders. My favorite paper flowers to create are the Mexican fiesta sets. They remind me of my childhood when my father would take me shopping for all kinds of glass colors for his glass creations.

Can you give our readers some background on your art?
I create handmade paper flowers ranging from 2 to 24 inches in size for all kinds of events that include weddings, anniversaries, special gatherings, birthday parties, parties in general that customers want to add a special touch too, and 0fcourse home decor. I draw and cut each petal by hand. Then build each flower with hot glue. I love creating unique paper flowers in all color combinations. I would love to inspire others like my father’s art inspired me. His stained glass art is beautiful and colorful that is why my designs are full of color.

What responsibility, if any, do you think artists have to use their art to help alleviate problems faced by others? Has your art been affected by issues you’ve concerned about?
In a world that is currently divided by religion, politics, and nationalities, Art inspires and make people happy, and it brings communities together. There is no division with art it’s just someones hard work and imagination brought to life that anyone can appreciate.

The negativity that is in the world inspires me to use more bright colors like the colors of the rainbow because I don’t want to be taken over by all that negativity…. and who doesn’t like rainbows!!??
