Art & Life with Noel Medina

Today we’d like to introduce you to Noel Medina.

Noel, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
It all started with me taking pictures of my three kids! I would post a ton of images of them when I joined Facebook. I was working in dentistry at the time, and a patient reached out to me to inquire about taking some portraits of her three children. She asked what I charged, and I think I threw out a number of around $50.00 So, we met at OB Pier, and I shot away!

In 2014 my cousin who lived in Oklahoma, contacted me to ask if I would be interested in shooting her wedding. I ask of course! I headed over to Oklahoma and shot my first full coverage wedding by myself. That marked the beginning of my professional career.

Can you give our readers some background on your art?
Natural light is my specialty. I would consider my style as editorial. I love to tell a story. My goal is to capture intimate moments that are unscripted or rehearsed. All of the weddings that I have shot have been outdoors .. so I have adapted many techniques to handle a variety of elements and weather conditions.

Photography is all about creating memories. I thrive to ensure that my clients are able to share those memories with future generations and their families. I find it also vital to have fun when I am shooting. I love to get to know my brides, grooms, and families. That is super important, and it breaks the ice to allow everyone to relax and enjoy their special day!

Ultimately, I am capturing one of the most important days of peoples lives. I want my clients to be comfortable with me so that I can take the very best images for them. In this business, you have to be able to adapt to all types of people. Fortunately, I am able to connect with people from the beginning, and that has allowed me to create some pretty spectacular memories.

How do you think about success, as an artist, and what do quality do you feel is most helpful?
In my opinion, success is doing something that you absolutely love. It is making people smile ear to ear. Success is adapting to people, places, and thing. Executing the task at hand and producing an ideal end result. As a photographer, you have to learn how to work with individuals with a variety of personality types. You cannot take things personally even when the going gets tough. I find that if you are personable with your clients, and truly make honest attempts to get to know them, and make them as comfortable as possible.. that typically leads to a super successful shoot!

If you are a memorable photographer and produce an ideal product, you are much more likely to have repeat clients and great referral sources!
