Art & Life with Riston Diggs

Today we’d like to introduce you to Riston Diggs.

Riston, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
It all started in my hometown of Pageland South Carolina, where I was born n’ bred. I was like every other kid, went to school, played sports, and hung outside in the neighborhood with friends n’ family. I left for the military when I was 17, and that was when I started working on music whenever I could, it was fun at the time, but I wasn’t able to pursue it like I’d want to with my obligations. So once I got out the military honorably discharged might I add, I was able to put more energy into my passion. Started to create without any inhibitions or distractions and released my first project in October 2015, started performing in 2016 and haven’t looked back since.

Can you give our readers some background on your art?
I’m a musician. I use words and sound to paint pictures of my realities, past, present, and future ambitions. My message is to echo the importance of authenticity in all mediums of art. My artwork is a unique perspective and should be enjoyed as such.

What responsibility, if any, do you think artists have to use their art to help alleviate problems faced by others? Has your art been affected by issues you’ve concerned about?
No, it has not, artists still have a responsibility to reflect the environment and world in which they live. It doesn’t affect it per se; it gives me a perspective to relate to the listeners when I speak on the issues.

What’s the best way for someone to check out your work and provide support?
My work can be found on all music streaming platforms (Tidal, Apple Music, Spotify, etc.) visuals on YouTube. You can support me by coming out to my shows and rocking out; the energy is always appreciated, I need it. I’ll always post on my Facebook page about upcoming gigs. You can catch myself & Sly Beats (Supreme Confidence) this summer at the San Diego County Fair. We just confirmed the dates, so you guys are the first to know. June 29, July 1st & 2nd we’ll be performing songs from our San Diego Music Awards-nominated album Supreme Confidence, released last year summer.
