Art & Life with Rocktoc

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rocktoc.

Rocktoc, please share your story with us.
Rocktoc formed over a year ago with the intention to support local music. Danny and I knew we wanted to support and give back to the San Diego music community and to our fellow San Diegans. We created the Rocktoc site,, to serve as a networking platform for local artists; the site and has over 50 artists on the roster at this point. We help artists get exposure by posting on social media about any of their upcoming shows, new music and music videos.

Can you give our readers some background on your art?
Our inspiration are the local artists that all work so hard to being the joy of their music to the masses. Rocktoc is about creating a very passion-driven, relationship-based community of interests that anybody can be part of if they love music. Through this ethos and enthusiasm for our music scene, we have established two major San Diego festivals that feature local artists exclusively.

Artists rarely, if ever pursue art for the money. Nonetheless, we all have bills and responsibilities and many aspiring artists are discouraged from pursuing art due to financial reasons. Any advice or thoughts you’d like to share with prospective artists?
If it’s your passion – continue on the path. All of the artists we work with have a story of living the dream through their art; the journey isn’t easy because they wind up creating and practicing after they’ve put in long hours at the day job. Some of these musicians have children, spouses and families, so you can imagine the sacrifices they are making to keep their dream alive. Danny and I are in the same boat. We work full-time jobs but this work is so important to us that we give our time and resources to grow our passion for a thriving local music scene.

What’s the best way for someone to check out your work and provide support?
Summ Music Fest is our summer festival (this August 4th, 14 bands and two stages at Queen Bees) and Rockin’ the City which is our winter festival. Along with the festivals, we have established the Punk/Indie goes Pop series that is held quarterly at 710 Beach Club. Rocktoc partners with Feeding San Diego, our charity of choice, for our musical events. Knowing that proceeds from all of our shows go directly to feed hungry children and people in San Diego makes it an extra bonus for the bands to support the events.
