Art & Life with Top Shelf Shake

Today we’d like to introduce you to Top Shelf Shake.

Top Shelf Shake, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
Top Shelf Shake started in the Spring of 2014 with just two guys (Aaron and Zac) sitting in a garage and learning cover songs by all their favorite bands; Everything from Led Zeppelin to The Fall Of Troy to The Beatles to Blink-182. After a year of this, it finally dawned on us that it might be fun to actually get a drummer. We did a few months of searching and finally found the right fit in the form of a hungry young local named Brandon Caudle. Fast forward to 4 years, two EPs, one Band Van, and a few hundred shows later and Brandon was on his way out so that he could start a family. With our sights set on touring, we knew we had to find a replacement, so we had our buddy Dennis, formerly of fellow reggae rockers Inhale– fill in for a year while we did our first small tours and resumed our search. Finally, we crossed paths with a local powerhouse by the name of Marco Duarte (oddly Dennis’ predecessor in Inhale), and it was then that we realized we had our perfect lineup. Now, here we are in the Summer of 2019, fresh off our longest tour to date (a full month on the road from SoCal to Seattle, through Colorado to New Orleans and back home through Texas and Arizona) and ready to take the world on a journey with us, for anybody who’s ready to come along, that is.

Can you give our readers some background on your art?
Being a musician is a really cool way to give one’s essence to the world. It allows us to travel and have fun, but it also allows us to be true artists. Like most bands, we enjoy a good simple tune that gets people jumping and doesn’t require a whole lot of analysis. In addition to those songs though, we always relish the opportunity to write a song with a bit more depth. Sometimes the message is one of social consciousness. Other times it’s nothing more than an ode to one of our favorite movies. My favorite message of ours, however, is a simple one: Go out there and show the world what you’re made of. Give it all you’ve got while you have the time. This world is crazy, and this Life is short, so don’t just talk about it. BE about it.

Any advice for aspiring or new artists?
Follow your dreams. Never give up. Forget your plan B. It’s that simple.
