Check out Catherine Seelie’s Artwork

Today we’d like to introduce you to Catherine Seelie.

Catherine, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
I have been an artist my entire life! In my teenage years, I would blast music in my room and sketch for hours. Although I still sketch, photography is now my medium of choice.

After having my son at nineteen, and not being able to afford the photography sessions that I marveled over, I took things into my own hands. I received a DSLR as a gift and began reading whatever blogs I could online in order to teach myself the art of photography. It is six years later and I still have so much to learn!

We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
I feel that my photography style is pretty different from the trend right now. I love creating deep, moody images that convey a story. Small details and fun compositions (especially looking through the doorway) are my favorite. Children are a great passion of mine – I am even a Reggio preschool teacher!

Childhood goes by so quickly for everyone involved (especially us parents!), and I love that with photography, we can hold onto these memories forever. Our children grow older, and days pass where we have nothing but messy homes and busy schedules on our mind. With my images, I hope to remind families of the love, magic, and wonder that is always present!

Given everything that is going on in the world today, do you think the role of artists has changed? How do local, national or international events and issues affect your art?
I do think that the role of artists has changed because of the current state of the world, but I think that it is not even something that us artists realize. We simply follow our passions. Right now, parenting is being over-sensitized, but I do feel that this is a good thing. With parenting done right and children raised in a supportive, healthy home, (most of the time) these children will grow into upstanding adults. These adults will then have the power to create a new world in the future, where the madness going on right now can be lessened.

I feel strongly that what is wrong is always reminding us of what is right, and only by realizing the wrongs, can we create the change that is needed. With my art and my voice, I hope to highlight the role of peaceful parenting and the importance of creating lasting and supportive memories for our children today that will develop their self-esteem and confidence.

Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
You can view my work on my website or on Instagram. I also have a Facebook page, although I don’t post there often.

You can support my work, and help others to relearn the magic of childhood, by following my Instagram page! I love shout-outs, collaborations, and giveaways for a great cause!
