Check out Charles Jiho and Kelley Raney’s Artwork

Today we’d like to introduce you to Charles Jiho and Kelley Raney.

Charles, Kelley, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
Charles and I are born and raised native San Diegans. We actually grew up together, living on the same street as children. Funny enough, we’ve known each other over 20 years! When other romances fizzled out in our early to mid-twenties, we decided to give dating a try. Here we are over 6 years later, engaged with big plans on the horizon. We both have always had a passion for all things beautiful, including people, places and things. With a love for capturing our own surroundings and ensuring no milestone memory goes by without capturing, we both have always held a strong passion for art and photography.

Charles has been a photographer since middle school, and I was introduced and more into it in high school. We started capturing friends and family in 2013 as a hobby and artistic outlet from both of our stressful jobs in other fields. We love it so much, we decided to make our dream of owning our own photography business a reality in 2015. Although I am still active in my career in a different field, Charles puts all of his energy full time into promoting and maintaining our continually growing business. Working as a team, Charles is the lead photographer who effortlessly captures the beautiful photos you’re viewing, utilizing his artistic eye and strong attention to detail. He also completes any post-session processing including hand editing each and every image to ensure we are always only putting our best work out for the world to see and share.

I’m not only his assistant on site ensuring every client is captured in a posed, yet comfortable look, with flattering angles and strong attention to detail, but I also am the lead business manager, promoting the business, providing package and session consultations while managing the client relationship. We pour our heart and soul into growing this business, providing work that shows it, and expressing or artistic values daily, and we wouldn’t have it any other way. We are in this together – we are each other’s balance, rock and better half professionally and personally.

We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
The art we create is our photography. With our cameras and lenses, we are capturing our client’s emotions, whether it be first looks, excitement, or happiness. We take such joy and pride in being a part of so many people’s lives, sharing their milestone moments, such as a wedding, engagement, maternity time, newborn child, and anything else you can think of. Our photography captures the happy and sometimes the sad. We are happy to showcase life as we see it, with an artistic edge and a high-quality way for our clients to reflect on these memories when things have calmed or time has passed. We would like our clients to remember there’s one thing we as people will always have and that is our memories. We are beyond happy to provide a way for people to remember the important times and their loved ones in life, and it brings us joy and fulfillment to be able to witness these moments and help our clients build these memories. We always say – Let us capture your memories while you’re busy making them!

Artists face many challenges, but what do you feel is the most pressing among them?
The biggest challenge facing artists in the photography industry is how high-impacted this field has become. And Cell phones 🙂 So many people do not see the difference in photos an artist can provide versus someone with a cell phone or they are trying to save in their budget and are willing to settle for a cell phone image versus a piece of art we would provide. We see more and more people are opting out of investing in a professional and end up with low-quality results and are very unhappy. It is challenging to make the sessions work, in the time a client has requested, yet they have so many creative ideas, and outfit changes. Budgets are stressful, and we pride ourselves on providing budget friendly packages, but as an artist, it’s extremely hard to feel like you’re finally in a great ‘groove’ with a client, capturing amazing images, and the session they’ve booked is almost timing out. It seems like once the client is finally comfortable in front of the camera, their time is about up. We have so many great ideas and inspiration to capture what the client is looking for, being on a timer is rough.
