Today we’d like to introduce you to Denise Vasquez.
Denise, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
I love capturing candid moments inspired by nature. Using her photography, life experiences & artistic eye, I’m always finding new ways to share my passion.
Born & raised in New York City, I have been on an adventure living in Scotland, London, the US Virgin Islands & California. Traveling & living in different parts of the world gives me a unique perspective, which is evident in my colorful outlook on life & photography.
I am a proud member of Team Canon and I contribute my photography to National Geographic Yourshot, Adobestock, Shutterstock, Redbubble & Viewbug.
We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
I am an artist who creates because it is a part of my being. I love working in all creative mediums whether it’s photography, mixed media art, writing, comedy or music. I’m currently focusing on my photography because that is where my heart is, and I always follow my heart. My favorite places to experience life with my camera in hand are near the ocean, in the desert or anywhere surrounded by nature. I love being at one with nature, in the great outdoors. My camera is an extension of the beauty I see in life. Being able to capture moments as they happen, and share them with my audience, is my way of letting them through the doorway into my life, so they can join me on my journey.
The sterotype of a starving artist scares away many potentially talented artists from pursuing art – any advice or thoughts about how to deal with the financial concerns an aspiring artist might be concerned about?
Never allow anything to get in the way of your passion, especially money. Possibilities are out there if you care to find them. There are free sites where you can showcase your photography while building your portfolio, there’s a free wonderful library right here in downtown San Diego with great books to help you keep learning; there are free photo contests where you can submit to gain exposure, network, and possibly win some prizes.
There are free meetups where you can meet and connect with like-minded individuals to help you stay inspired, and learn new techniques while getting out there. Practice makes perfect, keep shooting, use what you have, keep learning, keep putting your photography out there. The opportunities are endless. Photography is all about point of view in every way!
Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
My photography is currently on Exhibit in the San Diego County Fair Photo Exhibition June 1-July 4, 2018.
