Check out Kenley Tiesmeyer’s Artwork

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kenley Tiesmeyer.

Kenley, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
I grew up in a small town in Kansas and came to Los Angeles for college. I studied in Florence, Italy for a semester where I continued my love for photography and Italian cuisine. My love for design, the ocean, animals and sunshine has kept me in Southern California for 4 years. I am a graphic designer, and I love typography, packaging and branding. I’m a self-taught painter and enjoy painting as a creative outlet when I’m not in the Adobe Creative Cloud. I’m currently a graphic designer for a branding and consulting agency while working on freelance projects and also dog sitting (because I can never meet too many dogs). I’m very grateful for the great opportunities that Southern California has to offer!

We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
In my fine art work, I love drawing inspiration from Pinterest, landscapes and my own photography. I love landscape photography and animals, so I think it’s really fun to be able to draw inspiration from both of those. Being a designer and an artist, I draw the line between them as something I’m either doing for others or something I’m doing for myself. Design is about problem-solving, and I think that’s one of the most exciting aspects—I get to sit down with people, and figure out the best way to solve their problems through great design. As for art, my favorite part is the freeness of it; I don’t have to think when I paint or draw because it can produce organic and sometimes unpredictable results. I love the fluidity of art because it’s a break from the structure of design.

What do you think it takes to be successful as an artist?
The great part of being an artist is that that I get to be a creator. I think success relies heavily on just being happy with what you do, and how you can build your own craft for not only your own benefit, but also for the benefit of others. Success is very subjective for me, but there’s so much fulfillment in creating something physical that it’s all dependent on how you feel while working on a project. Persistence and experimentation are key as an artist. Not every project is going to be your best-seller or even viable, but that’s okay!

Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
I’m on Instagram as knlytsmyr and my website is I would love for you all to follow my work and feel free to say hello! I’m always open to talk about art, design, travel and dogs.
