Today we’d like to introduce you to Laura Lochrin.
Laura, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
I was born and raised in Glasgow on the West Coast of Scotland. I moved to California with my husband and 2 girls in 2012.
My background before moving to California and before starting my family was in media & advertising. I studied Media & Communication and worked for media and advertising companies.
My oldest daughter was born with Cystic Fibrosis, a genetic disorder, and I was a stay at home mum to her and my youngest daughter until I decided to pursue a career in Interior Design.
Having relocated our lives to California with my husband’s job, I was in the situation where I did not have a work permit here, so I went back to school to study Interior Design, I took an internship with a local designer and tried to learn as much as I could during that time. As soon as I received my work permit in September 2016 I started Laura Lochrin Interiors.
I have been overwhelmed by how fast my business has grown in this short space of time, I have had some amazing clients and projects, and I have just hired my first team member. I have big plans to grow and I continue to have many exciting projects and ventures for 2018.
We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
I am an Interior Designer, with many influences, including fashion, style and trends.
I have always been passionate about interiors, and continually update my own home to ensure I love it every time I walk in. I believe that everyone should have a home that truly reflects them and their style. I think it’s important that everyone has a home that they love to come home too, it’s where we spend most of our lives and where the big life moments take place!
My style is modern and always classic, I blend new with original to create timeless, fresh interiors. I regularly visit the UK for continued inspiration and a fresh view of upcoming trends. I truly enjoy working on projects of all sizes and ensuring they are a true reflection of the needs and wants of each client.
I work closely with my clients to bring their homes to life and create the home they’ve always wanted but had trouble putting together.
How can artists connect with other artists?
Starting this business as a solo was very daunting, there is no one to bounce ideas off and no one to interact with on a daily basis. But there are many ways to stay part of your community. I have found online resources to be amazing in staying connected…Instagram has allowed me to “meet” a lot of other designers that I have now became friends with and can pick up the phone to chat about anything. Getting out to trade events also allows me to meet people in person and strengthen those connections.
Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
