Today we’d like to introduce you to Margarita Rojas.
Margarita, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
I’m an illustrator working mostly in Animation. I was born and raised in Caracas, Venezuela, and moved to Barcelona, Spain when I was nineteen to study and I have been here since then.
We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
I draw places that I would like to visit, people or things that I would like to meet/see. I basically draw my fantasies, hopes and dreams of what the future could look like in some strange place and time. When a draw I start with the rough sketch of an idea, but this idea evolves and becomes something else. I never get hung up with the original idea, because I love the way things transform. Sometime just a simple brush stroke can take things somewhere else and the drawing becomes something else. I hope that people when they see my drawings get transported to these magical places of beauty and nostalgia. I paint a post-apocalyptic world after it starts to regenerate. That is why mushrooms are so big, and houses so small and rudimentary.
The sterotype of a starving artist scares away many potentially talented artists from pursuing art – any advice or thoughts about how to deal with the financial concerns an aspiring artist might be concerned about?
Keep being curious and don’t stop doing what you like. Practice, practice, practice. Eventually everything works out.
Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
You can find my work on Instagram, and you can show your love by following me and liking my work. I sell on commission, for the most part.
