Today we’d like to introduce you to Maricelia Dominguez.
Maricelia, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
My name is Maricelia Dominguez. I am a Mexican tattoo artist/business owner of Diamondink tattoos. I have been tattooing for 3 years out of Sacramento California. I’m one of very few female tattoo artist in Sacramento since this industry is predominantly male. This is something I hold near and dear to my heart. Many female tattoo artists are seen as sex icons and not for their artistic abilities. Aside from tattooing, I am an artist who loves to paint which was originally the passion I wanted to pursue, however my want to learn how to decorate the body with art came first.
Now I have the honor to do both things in life I love to do. Being a tattoo artist has been the most wonderful blessing and the people I get to meet and decorate with my art is out of this world. Being around people, being able to support body image and change lives through art is the most magical thing.
We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
Many people come into my shop with many different stories and history. Most clients come in seeking me specifically knowing that the art I provide is what they envision on there body forever. On top of that these pieces, I can be on anyone struggling .. going through a loss… being homeless… making a new step forward in life. I get to capture that with art. I get to provide a safe and comfortable environment for my clients and I get the privilege of hearing their beautiful stories. I create art that my clients fall in love with it sometimes I create designs that make me want to push to a next level. Growing as a young artist is a very important growth in any career sparks passion. The art I do I’m passionate about.
What do you know now that you wished you had learned earlier?
Don’t be afraid to pursue what you are passionate about. There will always be struggle and doors slammed in your faces but there will always be more doors coming if you keep pushing and fighting. Don’t be afraid to speak your mind and don’t be afraid of your passion. The lessons I’ve learned came at the time I needed to learn them and that’s what made this journey of mine very beautiful.
Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
Most of my artwork is on social media. The best way to get a hold of me or to see my work is Instagram or email me.
