Check Out Carla Corazón’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Carla Corazón.

Hi Carla, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Hola! I’m a Latina millennial who is all about opening up fresh new spaces in the wellness world. I create eco-lux candles that resonate with people like me, and I partner with other small businesses that value community over competition.

I’ve worked with Luxury Brands before and I knew I wanted to build a business with the same level of intentionality but rooted in my culture and celebrating mi gente. It’s not about a flex; it’s about a feeling.

I gravitated to candles because I grew up Catholic and they are a big part of sharing positive intentions. I think it’s beautiful that we light candles as a way to send grace to loved ones who might be going through a tough time. Candles have always been an empowering part of my self-care rituals. Today they help me connect with my inner self-care bruja.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I started my business in late 2019 and the pandemic drastically changed the landscape. There have been many challenges — from supply chain frustrations to meeting a growing demand. It’s not always good to be sold out!

It was a wild time to be a first-time entrepreneur but I’m definitely in love. I’ve had to learn quickly and tap into all my first gen skills. Luckily, I am nothing if not resourceful. What’s that saying? “Smooth seas never made a great sailor”? It’s been like that. I’ve learned so much at an accelerated pace.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I think I’m most known for my bold aesthetic and relatable copy. My best friend sometimes needs to remind me that I’m a badass or that I need to slow down or just laugh. I wanted my candles to have that kind of touchpoint. I mean, if it’s in your home it should make you smile, no?

I’m most proud of helping people feel seen and creating dialogue around mental health and self-care. My Elements line has accompanying meditations for the four elements. They can be found on my website and are a free community resource, which is important to me.

Can you share something surprising about yourself?
I was born in El Salvador during the civil war. After many close calls, my parents immigrated to Toronto, Canada. But it wasn’t happily ever after, and I’ve seen the way trauma affects both survivors and younger generations. These experiences drove my interest in wellness. I studied yogic philosophy, trauma-informed yoga, and yoga therapy and now believe that feeling safe in your body is everything. That part shouldn’t be a luxury.
