Today we’d like to introduce you to Dominique Cooper.
Hi Dominique, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
After high school, I went to community college with intention of going to fashion design school. Halfway through, I changed course and was more passionate about the hair industry. I decided to get my cosmetology license and never looked back. Going on 11 years in this amazing and forever changing industry.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Gaining confidence in your work is a skill to be learned. In the beginning, I would always question myself. Am I good enough? Are my clients happy? Being a hairstylist is a creative/ artist medium and so much could get lost in translation. I’ve built confidence through continued education and always pushing myself out of my comfort zone.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’ve been a licensed cosmetologist for 11 years and a certified Microblade artist for four years. In both avenues, I am able to work directly with my clients which I love. For hair, I specialize in blonding, extensions and am very familiar working with all different textures of hair. With Microblading, I focus on natural looking perfectly shaped brows that compliment my client’s features. I’m proud to be in an ever-evolving industry full of like-minded creatives. I feel like I don’t work a day in my life.
What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
I think education has been very important to my success. Knowledge builds confidence and when my clients see me confident and excited for their appointment, they leave the salon confident and ready to take on the world.
