Check Out Doug Davidson’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Doug Davidson.

Hi Doug, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Have you ever wondered what it would be like to write a book? For many years, I thought about it. I wanted to write a book that would be a lasting legacy for my sons. A “Dad’s Manual” that would help guide them through life and help them avoid some of the mistakes I made trying to figure out life.

Last year, I jumped in the deep end, and with no writing experience, wrote an International Best Seller. It is titled Power from the Heart – a collection of inspiring stories and insights that will Ignite Your Soul.

I have had a very full life, yet nothing came easy. I was not born with a silver spoon and had to earn everything the hard way. I have started several new careers, trying to find the best opportunity that combined my passion with a good income. I have conquered a life-long fear of speaking to become a highly sought-after motivational speaker. I competed in the grueling IRONMAN Triathlon World Championships in Hawaii and finished in the top 20% in the world.

At age 44, I dropped everything to become a professional golfer and set my sights on playing on the PGA TOUR. In 2003, along with my wife Janice and son Tyler, we started The Davidson Group Realty, and it is now a thriving multi-million dollar business. I’ve done all of these things and so much more. In my book, I share, from my heart, my most inspiring and emotional experiences – good and bad, successful and unsuccessful.

The book has 22 chapters from my life, and at the end of each story, I share the valuable insights and lessons I have learned from each experience. Most of my insights are from successes I have had. Others are a result of the extremely difficult situations I found myself in and the painful decisions I needed to make. I share what I learned during my amazing adventures, so you may apply the same lessons in your own wonderful life.

Mostly, though, I want to help you understand that you are in control of your own life simply by the powerful choices you make. You can make it as adventurous and fulfilling as you want it to be. You don’t have to be Superman or Superwoman. You just have to believe in yourself and see how incredibly worthy you are. All of the insights I share have helped guide me throughout my life. As you read the book, you will learn more about me, my values, and my true soul. My goal is that the stories will ignite your soul and inspire you to live your life to the fullest. By doing so, you will create a Ripple Effect that will make this world a better place for all.

I was born in Montreal, Canada on December 7, 1956. With the exception of a few years of traveling as a child, I lived in Canada until I was 38 years old when I moved to the United States. I finally settled in the San Diego, CA area and now have my U.S. Citizenship. Most of my values were learned at a young age from my parents Willard and Doreen Davidson. My parents were both supportive and strict at the same time. I was taught solid values that included: treat others how I would want to be treated, always do my best, complete every job I start and never take shortcuts. They sure gave me a great foundation to build on.

Sports became a big part of my life and kept me out of trouble in school. In fact, on many days, it was only practice or a game that motivated me to go to school. I found school pretty boring and sports helped me get through it. My confidence level growing up was pretty low, and over time, with small victories, it grew and grew. I also had my share of setbacks, humbling experiences, and on more than one occasion, I had to completely rebuild my life from nothing.

I spent a good part of my early life in survival mode. Out of necessity, I was focused on myself and doing everything I could just to pay my bills. As a result, I was not able to make any significant contribution to others. It was only later in life, around age fifty, that I truly got in touch with what I believe is my true purpose which is: “To inspire others.”

Once I realized this, and I put my attention on serving others, money started to flow to me. Now I am in philanthropy mode. My focus is no longer on myself but rather on how much of a contribution I can make to others. Nothing gives me more satisfaction than being able to give back to others and watching them grow.

This collection of stories is a true reflection of my purpose. I sincerely hope you enjoy reading the stories, and they provide you with inspiration and real tools to develop your own Power from the Heart.

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I have overcome numerous struggles in life and had to rebuild financially from nothing – 3 times. I have been through a divorce and been separated from my children for extended periods of time. As an entrepreneur/business owner, I wake up every day knowing that I am 100% responsible for my income and am also responsible for the well-being of all those that work with us.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
My goal in life is to inspire others and to create a positive Ripple Effect with every person I touch. I am starting my own podcast series and will be having conversations with Heart-Centered Leaders. In the meantime, I am available as a guest on other podcasts.

How do you think about luck?
I honestly don’t put much stock in the role of luck. I have, however, found that the harder I work, the luckier I get. I do value the Law of Attraction and know with certainty that I can attract anything I need.
