Check Out Fernando Ursua’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Fernando Ursua.

Hi Fernando, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My wife had just had our son and was on maternity leave. I worked for a restaurant and I had gotten fired because of new ownership. When I got home, I told my wife and she said don’t worry, we will figure this out. The next day she told me starting this weekend, we will sell our own food from our home. I said, Are you serious? How are we going to do that and with what money? We only had $500 on the bank. With that, I bought everything I needed to get started. I invented new flavors and sauces for seafood that has never been created. Our first weekend, we made $2,000. It was the biggest blessing my family and we could’ve encountered. Here we are a year in a half later owning our own restaurant, only four months open but we’re so glad we got started.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has definitely not been a smooth road. Owning a business is not easy, you have your days where you sell a lot and the days that are very slow. Sometimes you make a profit sometimes you have just enough for all the bills. We’ve built relationships with our customers and that’s what keeps us going and running.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m proud of how far I’ve come. It’s not easy being in the eye and everyone critiquing. Everything I make it is out of love, I have 16 years of experience in the kitchen. I love food, anyone who knows me knows that. I am known for not only the delicious flavorful food I offer but also the presentation. These recipes I’ve created are all from the heart and like no other. We’re not your ordinary Mariscos and Birria Home authentic food.
