Check Out Isabelle Devera’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Isabelle Devera.

Hi Isabelle, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I’m currently in the works of growing my platform to use my influence to show young people, women, and anyone that there’s more to life. I am a Christian women of color with pretty liberal beliefs. My goal is to be able to create a community for all beliefs and all people to come to know the Lord. I feel like there aren’t enough communities for young adults in the San Diego area, and I’m not sure where to start or how to start but I have so many ideas and passions for young adults in the San Diego community. I want to be able to create safe places, room for all colors, room for all people, and really just to come together in community before the Lord in love. There isn’t enough of that now, so many people are alone or self-made or independent these days. I was alone for a while and now I have the best people in my life because of good community.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It’s not been a smooth ride. I’ve been very up and down with trying to start my own ministry. I struggle with being consistent especially when the people don’t show up or the numbers aren’t there. I’m also working and going into my senior year of college so it’s hard to maintain my passion and creating a ministry.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
My big goal is to be able to put on a large concert like event created around faith and people of color. I picture allowing poc artists come and sell their artwork or preform. As well as letting small businesses of color come sell their items. However inviting all people in but really allowing poc to have a platform and space where they get to experience God. I think communities like this change lives.

Can you share something surprising about yourself?
I was in a psych ward last year. I struggle with mental health and depression. I come from a hard past filled with a lot and sometimes it’s hard for me to cope with. Fatter coming out of the dark place I was in I found the Lord and my life has drastically changed. I’ve found such a good group of people, a wonderful church, and now I am engaged.
