Check Out Jacqueline Ioane’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jacqueline Ioane.

Hi Jacqueline, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Hi! I’m Jackie and I was born and raised in Oceanside, California. I am the creative designer and owner of the company Friends and Fam Floral. My entire life I have always appreciated art and love creating beautiful things. A few years ago I had been working as a private nurse for ten years when I realized I wasn’t feeling fulfilled in my career. Being a nurse allowed me to comfort and care for others, but it didn’t provide me a creative outlet. I guess you can call it an “early mid-life crisis,” but I decided to change careers and pursue a more artistic path.

A few years later, after leaving my nursing job, I posted a photo of a floral arrangement on my social media I had done for a friend’s birthday with the caption “I’m going to be a florist!” Never in a million years did I think I was going to receive the positive feedback I did. A friend of mine messaged me asking if I would design some floral centerpieces for a private dinner and from then on, orders kept coming. Since arranging flowers was always something I loved doing and was very therapeutic for me, I thought I would go for it!

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Anyone who has started their own company would say getting consistent work was a struggle when you first begin. I started the business back in 2019-and at that time, I would get maybe 5 or 6 orders a month. Fast forward to March 2020, when we went on our first “covid lockdown.” Someone reached out asking if I could send some flowers to their loved ones that they have not seen in many months to show they were thinking of them. That one tropical arrangement then opened up so many doors. More and more people who were away from their families because of quarantine wanted to send some love from afar-those 5 or 6 monthly orders turned into 40 or 50.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’ve always loved being surprised by receiving flowers. Waking up to a beautiful arrangement would put a smile on my face. Now I get to be the one that provides that feeling for a living. One of the most rewarding part of flowering is to be able to see someone’s grandma’s smile after handing over their arrangement. Knowing that I was able to help make it happen makes me proud of my work.

During covid, I also thought that elderly patients at-home care facilities had not been able to see family for many months. I reached out to a local nursing home and presented an idea to teach monthly flower arranging classes. Although there were obstacles due to covid, I was able to bring joy to those who felt so disconnected during that time.

Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
I’m a very friendly person who gets along well with others. Most of my success has been built on the relationships I have cultivated in my life and the roots I have laid in my hometown. I am lucky to have made the connections I have in my life that have helped me grow my business.
