Check Out Jose Valencia’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jose Valencia.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My music career started recently, I would say about 2020-2021. However, My interest in music started early in my life. I was the leader of a drumline in middle school and had many performances around San Diego. When I was in high school I would upload videos on Snapchat of myself rapping over Drake instrumentals and people would react to it.

People’s reaction at first was that they were impressed but it wasn’t taken seriously because at the end of the day they were small snippets and I was rapping in a joking way. Things got serious when I went to college and met an audio engineer who goes by Bier Music. We started taking our talents more seriously and started to create studio-quality tracks together.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has been a smooth road for the most part. I would not consider anything a struggle; I would call it more of a challenge. Some challenges include: finding my sound, finding equipment to execute high-quality tracks, networking, and most important: getting heard.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I find that my strength comes from my unique voice. I have zero vocal training but I feel finding my sound and exploring my range is what I am proud of and what separates me from people who try to be someone else.

Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
Do not clout chase. It is obvious and no one likes that. I simply try to be as direct as possible. Instead of kissing ass, why don’t you just straight up ask for an opportunity? It is what you want anyway and saying it will have anyone you are networking with take you more seriously.
