Check Out Lisa Stavinoha’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lisa Stavinoha.

Hi Lisa, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Thank you, it is an honor to be here. I am an artist, author, personal trainer and event planner. I love creating experiences for others through words, images and activities. I host a youtube channel called creativity and inspiration where I share all things related and I run a Facebook group called creative haven.

All of those activities has led me to create Becoming Female. Becoming Female is a website, an art show in creation as well as a book of reflections and poems. Becoming Female is also an indie film. Becoming Female is a sisterhood for all females from birth to death. It is every experience, every word, everything that females live through, it is everything single thing that shapes and creates us into who we are in a minute of time. I created Becoming Female when I realized that who I am now and who I was yesterday, the day before and a week in the future is all because of the actions, interactions reactions that happen in life to me daily. I realized this was true for all females and that what happens to us collectively has an effect on all as well. #metoo #hearme

I get to use all of my passions in creating Becoming Female and I am super excited.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been smooth because life shapes us and it is not always good. In 2013 I stepped in a small hole which led to 4 ankle surgeries in 4 years. After it was all done, I ended up with Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS) which is a rare severe chronic pain disease. The pain associated with my disease is worse than having your arm cut off with no anesthesia but I am surviving and thriving because I refuse to fall victim to my CRPS. Then on top of living with this disease, my husband had several small strokes at the end of March. While he is physically doing well there have been personality changes, which is hard.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I do a little bit of everything. I paint with watercolors and acrylics. I draw and create with mixed media. I also love photography. I am most proud of a series I am working on titled Becoming Female showing all sides of being female. I am different because I am not afraid to tackle hard uncomfortable subjects using art.

I also love to use trash and recycle it into unique and interesting art creations.

I also upcycle thrifted fashion into new pieces. As well as paint on thrifted clothes and jackets.

I have also designed a whole line of clothes for those that suffer from chronic pain and curated thrifted clothes into capsule wardrobes and more.

I have an art website where all of my art is for sale as well as photography. People can also commission pieces for their homes or work settings. My website is where you can see my passion come to life.

What’s next?
I am looking forward to my website Becoming Female taking off with tons of articles, products and much more. Plus, I am working on a full art show to showcase what Becoming Female embodies. I am also in the process of writing a reflections/poetry book and an indie film.
