Today we’d like to introduce you to Raechel Denise.
Raechel, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
Growing up, my mom always brought her camera around. Whether it be on a trip, at a family party, or even just at home chillin’ in the kitchen or playing in my parents’ room, she was capturing memories. I remember going with her to Fedco or Kmart to pick up her processed film. She was so excited. She’d pick up the big fat white envelope, we’d push the cart just a little out of the way from other customers, and just stand there laughing and smiling as we flipped through all the photos. I still remember the feeling. It was then that I fell in love with photography.
Fast forward to 7th grade; I was in Yearbook. I use my mom’s film camera. There was an event I was shooting, and I captured this great candid of one of my classmates with whip cream all over his face. I still remember it clearly till this day. It ended up being blown up and framed and hung at school and landed on one of the front pages of the yearbook. I remember seeing my Yearbook advisors and fellow classmates eyes filled with joy and amazement at how great my shot was. Again, I fell in love with photography. I wanted to make people smile with my photos. I wanted them to have that token of a photo to always remember and never forget certain moments from their life.
Fast forward about 20 years later; my first son was born. I wanted to capture everything, so I taught myself how to use a DSLR. And then II saw got better; I realized that I wanted to capture other people and their special moments, their growing families. At the time I had a few photographer friends. I asked them if I can shadow them and learn all their ways and tricks of the trade, and from there, I took the dive and launched my own photography business.
We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do? Why? And what do you hope others will take away from your work?
My love for photography stems from wanting to preserve moments. Our lives change quickly, and photographs give us tangible memories and preserve fleeting details of our loved ones. I specialize in lifestyle photography and shoot families, engagements, and weddings throughout the year. There is nothing more important than family, and nothing more beautiful to me than a family’s love for each other. During our session, I work to capture that connection all while keeping the mood light, relaxed, and fun.
I know how hard it can be to get your significant other and kids on board for a photography session, so I like to keep you laughing, playing, and enjoying your time together. I am never afraid to push the limits by chasing toddlers in the sand, lying down in the dirt for a new perspective, or singing baby shark and shaking my booty just to get a real good smile out of the kiddos. A session is not just about remembering “this time of life,” but these specific memories — these particular toddler snuggles, this special embrace, the way this exact sunset looks right now.
Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
Most of my work is on my website on raechedenise.com. Otherwise, you can find them hung on the walls of my clients home which I am so honored to be a part of.
