Check out Saira Chavez’s Artwork

Today we’d like to introduce you to Saira Chavez.

Saira, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
I was born in Mexico, raised in Mississippi then jumped to Memphis, TN. There is where I picked up tattooing.
I’ve always been an artist, it’s something that runs in my family and always made me stand out from my peers throughout school. I was 17 when I got my first tattoo and that was it for me. I was introduced into tattooing and was fascinated by it. The artist that was tattooing me at the time got me started with everything, teaching me how to setup and what this and that is. Shortly after he fell off and I took my things and continued to learn on my own. I started tattooing my sister and some friends here and there until I decided to do pursue it all the way.

I moved to San Diego in 2014 and here is where I blossomed, you could say. I maneuvered my way into the tattoo world little by little and I’ve had the opportunity to learn from some very talented artists throughout my journey. I’m still learning new things every day and enjoying the process.

We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
Although I do tattoo colored pieces, my favorite style is black and grey. I love the soft and smoothness you can create with different variations of black and the contrast it does when you add white highlights. I really enjoy putting my client’s ideas together whether it’s something small, to completing a sleeve or simply having the honor to first timers!
I enjoy seeing the excitement on my clients faces when they see their completed piece which motivates me to do more with each tattoo! Every artist thinks differently and sees things differently so it’s always a plus to be given artistic freedom.

How can artists connect with other artists?
We sometimes have to find solitude to really connect with our inner creativity. I always find myself drawing or creating when I’m thinking a lot by myself. It is always good to surround yourself with people similar to you, so I find it fairly easy to connect with other artists. Social media always plays a big role and just simply networking can open up your doors to so many opportunities.

Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
