Community Highlights: Meet Kyle Albrecht of Social Garb Wardrobe Consulting

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kyle Albrecht.

Hi Kyle, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Creative expression is important. Representing yourself confidently in a way that speaks to your lifestyle and interests is a fulfilling way to, without speaking a word, connect with others. This is what menswear has always meant to me. My interest began as young as I can remember, being aware of how I was representing myself gave me pride.

After a couple of business degrees, I was lost in the world of adulthood. What will I do for a career? How can I blend passion with making money in order to create a stable and fulfilling future?

I bounced around a few industries, did a ton of traveling, learning, partying and meeting others who inspired me.

Finally one day while sitting at my kitchen table in my three bedroom apartment in LA that I shared with two of my best friends who are now an integral part of my business, it dawned on me… I can make money in fashion, I just need to figure out how.

Quit my job the next day, spent every day thereafter banging down doors in the fashion buildings in downtown LA until finally I was given an opportunity. I traveled, I sold, I managed, I learned, I learned, I learned.

Seven years later, I was in upper management at a midsize startup overseeing their apparel element. I had gone from an entry-level salesperson to someone who knew a few things about a few things. It was all part of the plan…

While working my career, I started my business on the side. Wardrobe consulting was something I had always done for my friends, not for money, but rather for a beer here and there and just because I loved it.

A few months later, I was taking on so much business that I was working a career during the day and running a full-time business in the wee hours of the morning and late into the night. It was clear that I had two choices, job security or this crazy adventure that had always been a part of the plan.

I quit my career within a month and set out on the journey I’m on today. What an easy decision it was!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I wake up each morning and no matter how exhausted and in need of a break I am, I remind myself how thankful I am. I believe the biggest challenge lies in the adjustment and battle to remain well balanced emotionally through the ups and downs. Self-doubt, exhaustion, slow days and understanding all the important legal steps one must take to legitimize their venture are just the start. A reminder that the work will never be done, and that’s ok, is an important fact to become at peace with.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
