Community Highlights: Meet Priscila Sarmento of

Today we’d like to introduce you to Priscila Sarmento. 

Hi Priscila, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
For as long as I remember, I have been around cakes. Growing up in Brazil, I have vivid memories of my mother’s kitchen, where I would venture to precisely follow recipes to bake and experiment with different ingredients. My friends soon realized how good my cakes were and started asking me to make cakes for their events. I then moved to San Diego, and at my Pastry Class end-of-the-year party, I brought one of my cakes. My classmates fell in love with it, and I got my first order right then and there. From that order, someone else who tried the cake contacted me to order too. It snowballed from there, and then The Sweet Cravings was born. 

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
There were definitely challenges along the way. The major ones were: first, the fact that I had to start in my own kitchen, which created a lot of conflicts with my family’s routine. The other one was the fact that I had to adapt the ingredients available in the US to the recipes I brought from Brazil, where the available ingredients were different. 

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next, you can tell us a bit more about your business?
What sets my cakes apart from my competitors is the unique flavor (Brazilian recipes adapted to the American palate), the fact they are moister than other cakes, and the way I customize them according to my clients’ needs. I make cakes for weddings, baby showers, corporate events, birthdays, and basically, any occasion. It’s very common to hear people who try my cakes for the first time say it was the best cake they ever had. What makes me very proud of my work (brand) is the feedback I get from my clients. I had clients changing their wedding date just because I wasn’t available on their original date, and they wanted my cake no matter what. Another client told me that she was at an event and she knew the cake was made by me, even though she doesn’t eat chocolate cake, but because it was made by me, she had to try it, and she loved it! 

What do you think about happiness?
My client’s feedback. In almost every order, I get calls or Instagram messages from my clients saying that my cake was the most successful thing at their party. Some clients say that some of their friends only went to their party because of my cake.
