Community Highlights: Meet Sofia Danielle Almazan of Elusive Glow Esthetics

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sofia Danielle Almazan.

Hi Sofia, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I started my journey as an Esthetician in Fall of 2018. I was working full-time as a manager at a Women’s Retailer while going to San Diego City College part-time for Esthetics. I ended up leaving that job to focus 110% on my education and also to prepare myself for my baby arriving that following year. I finished school in May 2019, got licensed in August 2019, and had my son in October 2019. It happened all so fast, and I decided to enjoy being a Stay-At-Home- Mom for as long as I could… then the pandemic hit in February 2020.

The pandemic allowed me to enjoy all the time I could with my little one, but as the months passed by I was becoming stir crazy! I decided I NEEDED to go back to work, but I had no idea where to begin. I just knew I could no longer be an employee, I NEEDED to be the Boss!

I had no experience in the Esthetics Industry besides a receptionist job a few years ago, and up until then, I hadn’t mastered any skills or had a specialty to offer clients- and I had no clients! I was good at facials, product knowledge & skin analysis, as well as being mediocre at hair removal- but I wanted more! So, I decided to pull the hustle out of me and learn a new trade, and I learned how to lash.

I got my certificate online in July 2020 and started building my clientele off of lashing in August 2020. I was given the opportunity to share space for my business at a great place, filled with like-minded professionals and those who want to see success for others. I took on being a “Full Service Esthetician”, and started my business- Elusive Glow Esthetics (sister brand: The Fairy Lash Tech) while offering all I can within my scope of practice: hair removal, skincare, and enhancements such as lash extensions.

With this unbeatable energy flowing around me and my dedication pumping I knew I was going to make my business work! I had no other option. I put myself out there unapologetically and… it’s paid off in more ways than one. Starting my business during the pandemic sounds crazy, but I never thought twice about it or second-guessed myself. I invested in my education, myself, and my surroundings to provide all I can for my clients. Beyond my craft, I work so hard for my family. I get to be who I’ve always wanted to be and do it limitlessly. I get to be a business owner and carry the perks and nuisances that come with the title, but the title has also come with substantial personal growth.

I get to be a full-time mommy and a full-time Esthetician. My business has allowed me to be a first-time business owner in my immediate and extended family! I get to be a powerful role model in my sister’s life; and show her you can make your life YOURS by going and getting it! I get to set non-debatable standards for my son and show him how hard work and passion is for everyone and anyone, and never settle for anything else. Furthermore, through all I do, I get to experience it all with the support of my parents by my side- ALWAYS rooting for me and my goals.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has never been easy. I started my business with no clients, no one in my books. I started from scratch during the pandemic. I worked for everything I have now, and I worked for every client I have retained as well. I strongly believe in balance and I reassure myself that any obstacle leads me to a much more fulfilling path. Anything in my way is a distraction sidelining me to adjust, but as long as my vision is clear I can tackle anything in my path!

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Elusive Glow Esthetics?
Elusive Glow Esthetics is a full-service business; offering hair removal, skin care treatments, and enhancements such as lash extensions, providing it all for my clients to discover their Elusive Glow.

My brand has been described by clients and colleagues as “eye-catching and detail-oriented,” and that’s what I’m striving for. I love to push the envelope on my industry, and my clients see that in me and my business. I dedicate myself to going that extra step for my clients, regardless if I’m working on lashes or skin consultation. I’m proud of the work that I put out into the world, and I allow my work to speak for itself.

We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
The pandemic had extinguished the fire many people had in their business and totally defeated many; or completely financially wiped them out. I am one of the lucky ones who have been able to establish my business during this uncertain time.
