We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
There have been several major challenges I went through during my entrepreneurship journey. First and foremost, being a mother of two young children (with ADHD) while working 24/7 has been the most difficult part for me as I am very close to my children. Before we all figured out working from home-or did we ever-I had already set up a home office for my new brand Yacamoz. It wasn’t as difficult at the beginning because they both went to school and I was able to divide my time between work and their schedule. After Covid, all our schedules got thrown, especially when we couldn’t find enough ways to occupy kids with activities. Ironically, this part of our lives had helped my brand’s minimalism concept more than anything because I was able to create real-life solutions to real-life challenges. Most of my capsule wardrobe and minimalist design ideas formed during this time as I had to find ways to be more productive while being home with kids.

The second biggest challenge for me was to catch up with the ever-growing digital marketing trends. My marketing and business degrees were totally out of date, and even though I was very eager to start the business a lot sooner, I had to pace myself until I completed some major courses I took during this time. As it turns out, it was the wisest thing to do because, during this self-improvement period, I found myself not only learning the new marketing trends but also learning about myself and do some soul searching while I am at it. This part shaped my WHY in life and helped me with my business and my life more than I could imagine. I finished seven major marketing courses during this time as well as challenge courses on business, self-improvement, and productivity. Also, finding time to read books was a challenge too, so I started listening to audiobooks while exercising to stay healthy mentally and physically. So I am very grateful for all the challenges I went through since they were all there for me to be better.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Yacamoz brand is focused on helping people realize their lives can be a lot more productive if they follow a more minimalist lifestyle. Each of our products is designed to last longer and serve better in our daily lives.

For example, our shoe collection is all hand-made, mostly hand-stitched with the best calf leather material, made in Turkey. Their classic, timeless design as well as the construction method, makes them a closet staple for many years to serve. We have 100% Cotton towels that take less space but function better than a traditional towel. Even our simplest kitchen towel collection is so good. We challenge you not to have anything else in your kitchen. This was one of the first things I did in my own kitchen, as I had drawers full of towels and tea towels I collected over the years, but I realized I don’t use most of them because they didn’t dry my glasses or utensils properly. So I donated all of them and kept one set of these amazing cotton towels I bought in Turkey two summers ago. When the concept was finalized, I tracked down every single manufacturer in Turkey for the products I have been happy with at home and wanted to bring them to other people’s lives.

What sets us apart is that we are not just selling items for your home or closet. They have a purpose. We want to help people to organize their homes, consequently their lives to gain more time for things that matter more. When you have fewer items with the functionality you need, it creates physical and emotional space in your home. Hence less time spent cleaning, tidying, or even finding what you need in less time. I was able to save 4 hours a day that was otherwise spent for cleaning and organizing. Not to mention the mental clarity that comes with the organized and functional space.

I am proud to be able to bring something that will ultimately help people become happier. Our children will not remember how much cleaning or organizing you did in your house, but they will remember the time you spent with them. Especially after what we went through last year, we need to take control of our time and spend it wiser, for the purpose of becoming a better version of ourselves.

We hope to bring more joy and productivity to everyone’s life by eliminating what is not necessarily needed and replacing them with those that would serve them better.

So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
I always wanted to lead a life that will leave something behind to help other people. When I was younger, I thought I would write a good book and hope that would make some sort of an impact on someone’s life. I still plan on doing that, but once I had children, I realized raising them well could be my legacy too. Leaving them with values that they would be proud of has become really important. Ultimately I want to somehow help other people through what I accomplished in life.

Why? I think helping others has always been important to me because of my mom. My mom has a huge impact on who I am and what I want to become. I am still trying to be like her as she is the most selfless and loved person I have ever met. I hope to teach my children gratitude and having a bigger purpose in life than self-serve so they each can lift others and help the world become a better place.
