Conversations with the Inspiring Anna Hinze

Today we’d like to introduce you to Anna Hinze.

Anna, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Born and raised in Mesa, Arizona. I started off getting my Cosmetology license and taking dance courses at a local community college after high school. I learned quickly that I wasn’t going to have the opportunity to leave my home state to travel and build a business if I stayed in my bubble. I had an opportunity to try a sales job in Costa Mesa, CA. Never being in sales and being more introverted in my late teens – early twenties, I decided to try it out with nothing really to lose. After my experience, I saved up enough money to move to Utah, where I studied business at LDSBC and did a summer sales job selling home security. After three years of freezing my butt off and moving so much with my temporary jobs, barely dating or having a sense of community, I decided I wanted a more stable life where I could travel for fun but continue to work and live in the same city. I always knew I wanted to move to CA one day. I had an opportunity to sell Solar in beautiful Sunny, San Diego.

My brother, being the top salesman of the company, had the connection and I got the approval in May of 2015 to join the team. After arriving, I realized that rent was 4 x as much as I was paying before and everything else was double to afford. I was determined to make it work, but I was also terrified of how I was going to do it, knowing I was in a commission-only job. I worked with a small solar company then transferred to a big company due to the small company going bankrupt. I had some good training, learned dos and don’t dos on the job and created a lot of connections. I worked with a few different companies over the last five years because they either kept going out of business or the sales teams fell apart. I also realized solar wasn’t a one size fits all. I wanted to bring the best options for my customers and I didn’t want to be apart of the drama a sales team can sometimes bring.

I became a Solar Broker in November of 2018 and started working with a company called ‘Harness’ that offered many different products. It was one of the best decisions I made in this business because I grew my income and freedom, Born and raised in Mesa, Arizona. After arriving here, I realized that rent was 4 x as much as I was paying before and everything else was double to afford. I was determined to make it work. I worked with a small solar company, then transferred to a big company once because the small company couldn’t stay in business. I learned a lot on the job and created a lot of connections. I worked with a few different companies over the last five years that I realized it wasn’t a one size fits all. I wanted to bring the best options for my customers because I knew solar wasn’t a ‘one size fits all,’ people wanted different things. I started to call myself a Solar Broker instead of. Consultant in November of 2018 when I started working with a company called ‘Harness.’ They offer many different products, which was just what I wanted for my customers, options. I knew I also wanted to grow my brand, so I started promoting ‘Solar Girl Anna’ late 2019 on IG and FB.

I hired a brand designer, business coach and officially launched my website, solargirlanna.com in February of 2020. I was so excited to not only offer solar for people in San Diego but nationwide. I am currently offering solar to other states such as FL, AZ, UT and CA during this time. I do most of my business in person but due to COVID_19, I’ve had to shift a lot to learning how to market more online. My hobby and passions with health and fitness never stopped. I was inspired to create Awakenmint Yoga after going through my ‘awakening’ when I joined a Yoga teacher training in late 2017 and left my religion. I started working at local studios to teach such as Reach Yoga, Fitness West and The Boxing Club. I knew I wanted to bring more to my students than just in the classroom. I started teaching at the beach with donation-based classes at Ocean Beach Park every Sunday at 10 am as well as added events. I built a following from there. Some events included Painting & Yoga and Horseback riding & Yoga.

I paused a bit in 2019 to focus more on building Solar Girl Anna because I knew I couldn’t focus on both until I had one figured out. When we went into quarantine, I realized my passion is too strong to just have one business. I had been taking courses in aromatherapy, hypnotherapy, meditation, the chakras, personal training, nutrition and self-healing that I realized I had to start sharing that knowledge to the world again. I began my virtual online classes with Awakenmint Yoga on IG LIVE teaching Yoga Sculpt, Vinyasa and Restorative Yoga & Meditation 3 X a week. I am now shifting to teach on ZOOM with my students for more intimate practice. I have continued the donation-based platform until I feel ready to start charging. I love what I do because not only am I helping the planet with helping people reduce their carbon footprint by going solar and save money but I can help others prevent disease in the body with conscious movement, meditation, natural remedies and intuitive eating. I am currently looking to purchase a condo this year and am so grateful for the lessons I’ve learned by choosing to follow my heart. It hasn’t always been easy.

In the beginning of moving to San Diego, I accrued a lot of debt and dated a lot of, excuse my French but assholes. After doing my own healing through life coaching, therapy and following Dave Ramsey’s advice on finances, I am proud to say I am debt-free other than my car loan and have a loving, kind and successful boyfriend. Sometimes we need to experience the bad to appreciate the good. We need to play with fire to realize that we should choose another path. I wouldn’t trade my experiences because they got me where I am today. I am excited to continue to help others hopefully learn from my mistakes but also come to for a safe space and for some savings! #solargirlanna #awakenmintyoga

Has it been a smooth road?
Definitely not a smooth road but sometimes I believe we make it harder than what it really should be. Don’t SETTLE. And try to think differently than the way you were raised… maybe you were brought on earth to change the patterns that weren’t serving your family lineage. My mother was an entrepreneur too but however we always seemed to struggle with money growing up, so once I noticed those habits, I learned to shift them and take action into my finances. Try to see what habits aren’t serving you and read a self-help book to get you out of the funk. Some great ones I enjoy are, ‘You Are A Badass’ By Jen Sincere, ’20 Something, 20 Everything’ By Christine Hassler, ‘The Compound Effect’ By Darren Hardy and ‘The Universe Has Your Back’ by Gabby Bernstein.

We’d love to hear more about your work.
As a Solar Broker, I’m known for helping homeowners and business owners get the right solar program for their home, saving them 40-60% and paying no cost upfront. What sets me apart is being able to show the difference in companies rather than saying that “this company is the best.” I ensure quality over quantity. As a Yoga Instructor, I’d say I am more known for my spiritual-dance like flows.

Looking back on your childhood, what experiences do you feel played an important role in shaping the person you grew up to be?
Yes. My dad always did goal setting with me the beginning of the year and we would set intentions for the year in all six categories: Spiritual, Mental, Physical, Relationships, Emotional, Financial. I feel like that is extremely important in having a brand/business because it’s not just a financial commitment, it’s a commitment for you to emotionally and physically show up everyday.

Pricing:

  • Homeowners and business owners save 30-60% depending on usage.
  • Personal Yoga is normally $45/session
  • Aromatherapy around $20/bottle
