Conversations with the Inspiring Becky Launder

Today we’d like to introduce you to Becky Launder.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Becky. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Hi there! It’s nice to “meet” you! My professional background is Marketing Strategy, Leadership Training and Operational Management. With a Masters in Leadership and Management at the University of San Diego, I spent over a decade working at an amazing company that trains leaders across the country.

In the midst of that, I was blessed to have two adorable kiddos and craved the flexibility to be home more. I always had a bit of a side hustle keeping me busy outside my day job. After many late nights and long talks with my hubby, we decided it was time to take the leap away from my desk job and focus my efforts on marketing consulting and growing my direct sales team. Shortly after that, I tapped into my training and development background to launch a website called to share what I was learning with others in the industry. It is my passion to help other mamas be successful!

Today, I am proud to have trained thousands of leaders in the direct sales field. I lead a team of amazing women growing their Matilda Jane Clothing business and have the privilege of styling moms, tweens, girls and babies in the most whimsical, cutest clothing. It’s pretty much a dream come true.

You can most often find me with a coffee in hand chasing my kiddos around, developing new training topics for my online community, hosting pop-up’s and trunk shows across San Diego and connecting with like-minded mompreneurs that are building their own boutique biz.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Being an entrepreneur definitely isn’t easy. You can’t predict what is coming next and change is constant. You are constantly in a state of reinventing yourself and your product. It is SO worth it but definitely takes patience, perseverance, and hustle.

When you love what you do, you want to do it ALL the time. It’s constantly on your mind and hard to disconnect when you’re passionate about your work. My biggest struggle is turning work “off” when its family time, enjoying a hobby outside of work and kids and being okay with each season of life. I remind myself all the time that success doesn’t happen overnight. I remind myself that yes, my business could be growing faster but I am a mom of a 3 and 5-year-old and don’t want to miss these precious years when my kiddos actually want to be with me every single minute (how cool is that?!).

Finding your tribe of women that “get it” and want to support and encourage you have been so helpful for me. Join a networking group. Connect with other business owners. Make sure you are in a relationship with a partner that supports your dreams as much as you do. And, when you can’t surround yourself with your tribe — listen to podcasts, read books or scan a blog that will inspire and encourage you daily.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into Team Builder at Matilda Jane Clothing, Founder of story. Tell us more about the business.
Matilda Jane Clothing is a boutique clothing line most known for its whimsical fun patterns for babies, girls, tweens, and moms. Our mission is to keep little girls little. How amazing is that?! We have a new release on the first of each month in limited quantities and styles. There are always sell-outs — especially of the most twirly dresses! As a Team Builder with Matilda Jane Clothing, I lead and coach a team of Trunk Keepers. I spend a majority of my time focused on onboarding, training and helping each of my teammates reach their goals.

I also work directly with customers to help them find outfits that they love. Styling families for a photo shoot, helping a little girl pick out her birthday dress or working with a grandma to surprise her granddaughter are a few of my favorite occasions. I host a pop-up Preview Day the last day of each month at my house in San Diego to take pre-orders for that evening’s release. I also have a hoppin’ facebook group where I’m always posting giveaways, deals and styling tips!

On, you’ll see helpful tips, tricks and insights to help you grow your direct sales business online and offline. This has become a hub for other direct sellers to easily find the information and inspiration needed to take their biz to the next level. My first course, Launch your Website in a Weekend, was developed earlier this year. Additional courses are coming soon!

Who do you look up to? How have they inspired you?
I really find inspiration all over — from women in my life that I know and love — and from women that I’ve never met! I have several mentors that inspire and coach me on a regular basis. I’m part of an online mastermind group of over 100 amazing women that are doing big things in their business. I also love bloggers and influencers that are years ahead of me in their business that openly share their learnings and failures. The one thing in common is all of these women have raised families, have built a profitable business and make me want to do better and be better in my day-to-day life.
