Conversations with the Inspiring Brianna Flores

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brianna Flores.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Brianna. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I started my love for makeup 3 years ago. Growing up with my father, three brothers and sister, I have always been the creative one with the artistic skills in my family that has loved to express herself through artistic ways whether it was in makeup, drawing, painting, photograph, or learning how to play an instrument.

I remember that makeup was something I used to dislike when I was in High School since I used to not wear any except for eyebrows. Once I got into college I started practicing doing my makeup cause I wanted to improve on how I look. So I started watching YouTube videos. I remember that I will be practicing in my room for hours trying to do my makeup like the makeup gurus, which to be honest was so stressful since it always ended up with my makeup looking a mess.

I honestly felt like giving up with the whole makeup thing and go back to only doing my brows but at the same time, I wanted to push myself since I was not one of those people that usually gives up after the first try. Time passed and I started to practice more and more each day. A year later passed and I felt confident with the makeup skills I had developed which made me feel good about myself. My love for makeup started to grow more once I started to step out of my comfort zone.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No, it wasn’t a smooth road at all. Starting as a new makeup artist is hard because not so many people believe in you or your skills which sometimes makes you doubt yourself. I remember that at the beginning I will feel like my makeup wasn’t good enough at all since there were makeup artists out there who were way better than me. Growing in the beauty industry was hard for me at the beginning since I felt ugly in my own skin. I saw pictures of girls who were pretty with and without makeup which made me feel so insecure.

The beauty marks on my face have always made me feel insecure. When I was in middle school I remember that girls will laugh at me because of my appearance which ended up in me growing with so many insecurities. I really hated how I looked which made it hard for me to actually think that I could fit-in in the beauty industry since everyone you see in social media is absolutely flawless.

As I started to grow, not as a makeup artist but as a person, all these lies and ideas that I have created for myself thinking that I wasn’t beautiful enough to become a makeup artist started to crumble when I remember that God created me beautiful in my own way.

I started to love myself for who I really was. Every beauty mark on my skin and every flaw it’s what truly makes me ME. I learned that everyone will have a flaw, but it’s that flaw in our skin or in our body that makes us the US. I learned that it’s okay to look different and that having a lot of beauty marks in your skin is extraordinary, it’s like looking at the stars at night just to admire their beauty.

I admit It was a tough road because people expect you to be perfect when your not. They expect you to be beautiful, to look just like a model from a magazine but I believe it’s true when they say that beauty doesn’t come from the outside but from the inside. My advice to you, whether your a makeup artist or you want to be one, is to never let anyone define who you are and what you’re capable of. Don’t grow up being a prisoner of your own doubts, lies, ideas, or past. Never let someone get in the way of your dreams because of your appearance. If you have a dream or a passion fight for it no matter what.

Be who you are, be confident, love your own skin, and never let anyone not even yourself bring you down. If you want to be in the beauty industry then go ahead, but shine in your OWN beauty since that’s what’s gonna make you grow not only as a makeup artist but as a person. Another is that never ever give up on your dreams no matter the circumstances, always believe in yourself.

What should we know about your business? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I am a beauty guru and a freelance makeup artist. I do makeup for special events such as weddings, prom, homecoming, quinceañeras, etc. I love making people feel beautiful in their own skin and seeing their reaction when they look at themselves in the mirror. I’m also known for my makeup looks on my Instagram account known as @bribeautyglam. I love being creative when it comes to my makeup looks by playing around with colors and stepping out of my comfort zone.

For me, the biggest thing I am proud of is being there for people when it comes to those special days that will mark their lives. Being part of their lives in that special day is amazing because you get to see their smiles when they see your work which means your doing something right. People that know me or who I have done their makeup know that I love interacting with them. There has never been a client that has been serious with me at all. I love talking to them and to make them laugh so they can feel confident and feel welcomed. Building a relationship with your client the moment they sit in the chair to me is important because that’s how they know that you truly care for them and that they can trust that you will do an amazing job.

What sets me apart from other makeup artist has to be my personality and the service I give my clients. I have always been a humble person because that’s how my father raised me and that’s how I will always be. I love making people feel welcomed by asking them how their day is going or simply by just making them laugh. I’m that person who will never be serious no matter what since you will always see me with a smile on my face. I try to make my clients feel comfortable at all times, like if the person doing their makeup was a close friend. In the beginning, we can be strangers but by the end of the day, it will seem like we have known each other for years.

Are there any apps, books, podcasts or other resources that you’ve benefited from using?
Instagram has helped me grow as a makeup artist since it’s where my work has been noticed the most. On my Instagram page, I post more about the makeup looks I create on myself than the ones I do on my clients. I love creating makeup looks that are colorful, looks that I wouldn’t normally wear when going out.

Instagram has been the main key in my journey as a makeup artist and in getting noticed. So far one of the biggest accomplishes that I have realized through Instagram has been joining Covergirl’s PR list which was a huge deal for me since I don’t have that many followers which caught me by surprise that a well recognized and famous brand saw my work and loved it so much to the point in where they decided to add me to their PR list.

Some other accomplishments have been getting my work featured on Anastasia Beverly Hills, Morphe Brushes and NYX Cosmetics Instagram page.
