Conversations with the Inspiring Coleen Otero

Today we’d like to introduce you to Coleen Otero.

Coleen, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I set out to dominate in the beauty industry immediately after high school and fell on my face continuously for years. After decades of experience and self-development, I finally got it! I immediately began to help other up and coming artist. From hands-on classes, seminars, conference calls, one of which was a monthly call for women in business called Get It Girl. Women from various industries started to reach out for advice both on and offline.

That’s when a light bulb went off! In 2016, I pulled together a team of extremely accomplished, successful superwomen to help me serve the needs of female entrepreneurs around the world. The CEO Chick Network is a passion project that was born from my personal business challenges as a young entrepreneur. Our organic growth reaches from California, Florida, Illinois, even as far as London, UK.

Collaborate, Create and Dominate! We believe this is what every CEO Chick was born to do!

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It has not been a smooth road. The challenges vary from funding, finding the right team, lack of mentors, balancing motherhood and marriage. It was and still is an ongoing journey. One of the biggest issues I see in young entrepreneurs is a lack of patience. They want to be big, fast! Rich, now! Popular, today! My advice would be to research, plan, and prepare. There are four key things I share in the introduction of my book, Brand To Bucks, on every entrepreneur needs to be successful. I call them the M-Factors. They are as follows:

-Magnetism, the ability to attract the clients you desire to serve.
-Man Power, the ability to build a team that embraces your vision and uses their gifts and talents to see it grow.
-Money, the finances to take your idea from runway to launch
-Mental Strength, the ability to mentally prepare for the stress that comes from success

Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
My years in the beauty industry began to transition as technology and social media disrupted the way we communicate in society. My creative gifts were employed for photo shoots, website development. content creation, logo development, videos… and more.

Beauty, Branding, and Business! It’s not what I do, it is truly who I am. I love curating customer experiences with a brand… this is what sets me apart from many in the branding field. It’s more than developing a look, but it’s about developing a brands DNA and culture.

What do you feel are the biggest barriers today to female leadership, in your industry or generally?
I’ve interacted with thousands of women in business over the last decade, the biggest barrier I see women struggle with is themselves! WE GET IN OUR OWN WAY! There is a tendency to underestimate ourselves and overestimate everyone else. We struggle with our perspectives of ourselves, comparing ourselves to others, sabotaging our own success. It’s pretty deep!

It’s the reason why I added a Mental Therapist to my coaching staff. The way we think, the way we handle stress, the relationships we attract, how we define success, how we handle money, it all stems from how our brains are wired. I believe success begins first from within!
