Today we’d like to introduce you to Karen Braveheart.
Karen, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
My journey in finding my life purpose work began when my daughter, Sophia, was 18 months old. I took her out to eat and affixed a placemat (that had adhesive on it) onto the table and cut up small pieces of food for her. In a split second, she picked it up, hurled it like a frisbee, and I saw food go flying and land on the gentleman sitting at the table behind us. There was spaghetti dangling from his hair, and his nice, white button-down dress shirt was covered in meatballs, peas, and red sauce. OMG! She laughed, and I cried.
I was like- is this what mealtime was like with a toddler because I didn’t sign up for this as a new parent? I then bought and tried every product on the market that claimed to stay in place and none worked. I was still left with the same frustrating situation.
So, I decided to invent something that really worked to stay in place. And, I have! It’s called the Adi plate, and it’s going to be a game changer in the juvenile products industry.
That single moment changed my life. It started me on this inner journey of self-exploration in designing our 1st product line, undertaking the behemoth task of manufacturing it, and now bringing them to market. Best decision ever to listen to my heart! Every moment of being a girl boss is pure bliss- even with juggling the crazy long work hours and mom life to my three awesome kids.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My advice for anyone- woman or man is to follow your heart! I practiced law in New York for 10 years and made great money. However, I felt empty inside. Something was missing and I wasn’t happy or fulfilled. It wasn’t until I realized that I’m a designer at heart that it aligned with my fierce passion for business and my life purpose emerged. Now- I get to do what I love every day and work with amazing people. Every day is an adventure.
What I’ve learned along the way is to make myself happy first. I chased the money when I was a lawyer, and it doesn’t work. So, I gave that up and pursued this burning passion in me to build a business that makes the world a better place. And, guess what?- money has always shown up and been there to support me.
I see every challenge as a learning opportunity. I ask myself, “What am I to learn here?”
This mental mindset allows me to work at my optimal and not let a mistake or temporary block get in my way. I learned that if you’ve got a dream in your heart- go for it! You’ve only got one life to live, and only you can make yourself happy. No one else outside of you can give that to you.
Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
I’m the CEO/Founder of Prodigi Kids, a local startup. We launch our first product, the Adi plate this Summer. Check us out at www.prodigikids.com. The Adi plate is a plate for young children with a suction on the bottom. It works like no other to really stay stuck to a table surface… thwarting little hands from hurling it into the air. We remove the stress so parents can have more peace at home.
There’s a deeper impact we’re creating here. We work to put more loving moments into families busy lives because that’s the good stuff- the stuff that goes into a child’s brain and tells them they are valued and worthy inside. When a parent loves up their child, their brain becomes wired with thoughts and feelings of self-love. No love inside the home- then no self-worth inside the brain.
Self-worth is the single ingredient that every person needs to make their dreams come true. If you don’t believe in yourself, you’ll never take the action steps to fulfill your destiny. And that’s what I live for. It’s what I’ve sacrificed everything for and risked it all for. To share this beautiful message for all parents and caregivers raising the next generation of children. Raise your child with self-worth. That’s the key.
Prodigi Kids is here to show you how and support for you every step of the way. My team and I have so much to share that we’ve been working on the past few years. We invite you to follow us on social. There are epic things coming your way and into your homes.
Who do you look up to? How have they inspired you?
I feel that we, as women, make our own opportunities. I inspire me. Early in my career, I realized that I’m not the corporate type. I would sit in a meeting that lasted 3 hours and think to myself- I could run this meeting in 20 minutes, accomplish more, and allow everyone in the room to spend their time in a more valuable, productive way.
When I became a mom, I wanted a flexible schedule so I could be there for my kids and realize my own big dreams. A typical day for me is getting up around 4-5 am, work till 5 pm, pick up my kids, love them up, have dinner, do homework, cuddle, and then back to work for me after they go to bed. Then, repeat the next day.
I’ve always walked my own path. As far as opportunity for other women, I say just go for it. You make your own opportunities as you go and the right people will just show up. The key is to just keep going and don’t miss an open door when it comes your way. I’ve found this to be true on my journey time and time again.
My life’s motto is I’ll always be braver than I am scared, and I’ll never miss an opportunity. I’m blazing my own trail and loving every moment of it.
