Conversations with the Inspiring Lindsey Shokouhi

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lindsey Shokouhi.

Lindsey, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I’m originally from Northen Nevada and have been in the beauty industry for over 11 years. At 18, I enrolled in cosmetology school and worked full time for a cosmetic company. After graduating, I worked in a salon as a hair and makeup artist as well as teaching weekly makeup classes.

I had always wanted to move to Southern California and when I was given the chance to transfer with the job I immediately trusted my intuition and went for it.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I feel like there are always struggles in every story! Without chaos, there would be no compassion.
My story was anything but smooth. There have been times when I have felt defeated, stagnant and almost yes, giving up.

Some of the most challenging things would be, being told: “You’re just not the right person that we’re looking for”.

Being overlooked because I didn’t know “the right person” or have an into the industry.

I came from a family that did not come from wealth. I didn’t have any financial support. There was not even one person in my family even remotely in the line of work I was interested in.

So, all of my research was entirely self-driven. I would go into makeup counters and ask countless questions. I would go into salons and introduce myself and drop off my resume.

I heard the words” We’re not hiring at the moment” and “No, were Sorry!”

A LOT! But this kind of fueled my fire and made me want it even more.

My number one advice would be to stay consistent… you can be told 1000 times No, but it only takes one Yes.

I ended up landing my dream job with a cosmetic brand I loved and working my way up to being a manger.
I was then given the opportunity to move and have a brand new store. So, of course, I did it.

Was there still struggles? Absolutely. But I decided to go for it and give it 110%. I have been able to also pursue my personal freelance makeup business as well as do hair. Being able to do it all was always my dream.

My biggest challenge and an overall lowest point were losing my dad this year. I honestly thought about quitting everything and I felt so lost and broken. How could I possibly keep going?

I knew that my dad would want me to keep going and to be happy. So, that’s what I did, I took my happiness back. Some days are still hard but I find peace and happiness in making my clients feel beautiful and connecting on a personal level. You grow through what you go through.

I would tell women of all ages even if you are at your lowest or facing hardships to always take back your happiness and let your passion be your guiding light.

What should we know about your business? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I am a professional makeup artist, business manager, and licensed cosmetologist. I specialize in bridal, special occasion, editorial, print makeup. I’m most known for my soft glam makeup looks with natural bronze tones, full fluffy lashes, and bronze dewy skin.

I’m most proud of how far I’ve come as an artist and a person. I love being relatable to my clients and finding similarities while making connections.

What sets me apart from other makeup artists is that I’m this industry for my passion of people and art.
I take the time to listen and create a look that enhances my client and makes them feel there most beautiful.

I have appreciation for all things beauty and love making my clients feel beautiful on the outside as well as inside.

Who do you look up to? How have they inspired you?
My late grandmother, who was an amazing mother, grandmother, friend, and mentor. She faced tragedy and was always kind and positive. She had a heart of gold and was always a visionary.

My mom. She is constantly faced with challenges, battles with addiction and has overcome obstacles most would never be able to handle.

Women who are relentless inspire me.
