Conversations with the Inspiring Mimi Khemmanivong

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mimi Khemmanivong.

Mimi, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
After working a regular 9-5 office job for over 11 years, I felt like I needed something more. A couple of years ago, I got approached by a couple of the ladies in my family to do a permanent makeup/brow artist training with them. I told them there’s already 3 of you in the family who will be doing permanent make up and I didn’t want to compete for clients. So, I thought, why not do something that will go side by side with permanent makeup/brow artistry and we can refer each other clients. That’s when I was like lashes! I’ll learn how to do eyelash extensions. Little did I know, you have to be a cosmetologist or esthetician to perform eyelash extensions services in the state of California. So, I said to myself, forget this. I don’t have time to go to school to get licensed. I have my full time job as an executive assistant, my toddler twin girls and a husband to tend to. After weeks of thinking and the support of my husband and family, I decided that I’m going to go for it! So, I registered myself for school to be an esthetician and this is where I stand today.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Of course, it was not as easy as I thought it would be and still a rough road. Juggling around working full time, being a parent and a wife, plus, now running the lash business is a lot to take on but with determination and something you really enjoy doing you just do it. My advice to anyone starting out is if you really want it and enjoy it, keep at it, work hard, practice and don’t give up.

what should we know about Beautified by Mimi? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I offer eyelash extensions, lash lifts and lash lift training. I love it all, especially when the client opens her eyes after a service and they have that “WOW” look on their face. It’s also rewarding when I’m able to teach the tricks of the trade to up and coming lash lift artists.

Who do you look up to? How have they inspired you?
My sister, Vasana Pham. She has always been so thriving and achieving all her goals. She’s very caring and always there whenever anyone needs her for any reason. She gives great advice and very knowledgeable.
