Conversations with the Inspiring Nikki Kae

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nikki Kae.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Nikki. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I started off as a Brand Strategist, helping many business owners build their brands especially business owners in the resort, spa, medical, health, wellness and hospitality industry. As I was helping other owners built their businesses, I had an opportunity to learn about the spa industry, skincare in particular, more in-depth. I became very interested and wanted to gain a deeper knowledge about skincare because my skin was not healthy at all at that time. So, I went and got my esthetician license.

My first goal was to improve my own skin by utilizing the knowledge that I’ve learned to improve my daily skincare regimen and boost my skin with effective treatments and enhancements. It was an interesting learning process filled with trial and error on different products, different treatments and techniques. And finally, I started seeing positive results on my skin, I then had a vision and a passion to share the knowledge and experience to the people I come across with starting with those in my community.

In 2011, I realized the impact of the skin spa lifestyle concept- blending an effective skin and health spa treatment with your modern, wellness lifestyle in mind and that’s when SD SKIN SPA was born. In April of 2011, I opened my first lifestyle spa location in Long Beach, CA. Now, we have expanded our presence and practice to North Park community in San Diego. My goal is to provide everyone with accessibility to the highest quality skin care treatments – all in a warm, welcoming and caring environment.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I believe that smooth roads don’t make skillful drivers, lol. As every business owner can imagine, every single day there is always new challenges we have to face. One of the most challenges was when we had to re-locate our first location that we had opened for almost eight years in just a month’s notice. The new management took over the building that we were in, they would like to replace all small boutique brands in the entire plaza with large corporations/big brands. It was a rough road but we were very fortunate that all of our clients were very supportive during that time.

My advice for young women who are just starting their journey would be; 1) Focus on the solution not the problem. 2) Look for something positive in every negative situation. And 3) Have a clear, defined goal, stay focused, keep growing and never lose sight of your goal.

what should we know about SD SKIN SPA? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
At SD SKIN SPA, we specialize in a customized skincare and skin imperfections treatments that are tailored to each individual client. Because everyone’s skin is very unique, and it’s constantly changing, we wanted to ensure that our services reflect and cater to every individual’s skin concerns. We are known for our personalized approach and our innovative concept in merging the leading-edge technology and natural healing properties into an approachable self-care routine that fits our client’s daily lifestyle.

SD SKIN SPA believes in building a space for community where skin experts and clients can meet and connect in a safe and empowering environment. When we think of SD SKIN SPA as a brand, we think of our clients and their stories. Our clients and their life-changing experiences truly defined us as a brand. When our seven yr old, Aisha got her first-ever couple facial treatment with her mother, she enjoyed it so much, left us a handwritten thank you note, her mother mentioned she could not stop bragging about her first facial experience to all her friends and teachers at school. When our client, Michael was able to see clearly again after we removed a large skin-tag on his left eye-lid that was blocking his vision for almost 30 years, it was a magical moment for him and a rewarding moment for us. When James proposed to Sandra at our Long Beach location after they came in to get a couple massage and facial treatment together, it was very nerve-wracking when we had to hold on to the ring but it was a pure bliss when Sandra said yes! 🙂 These are some of the stories that inspire us and are the reason why we continue to provide our excellent service to our clients everyday. We are very honored, humbled and proud to be part of each and everyone of our clients’ stories and experiences.

Do you have any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general? What has worked well for you?
I believe in keeping up with technology and trends and sharing SD SKIN SPA’s knowledge and goal with others in and outside of the Aesthetic industry. At SD SKIN SPA, we love connecting with others to keep our tools sharp and our practices fresh. We oftentimes host events at our North Park location and gather our skin experts and professionals together to share their knowledge and insight to our clients and the people in our community. These gathering events have given us a lot of success in connecting and bringing everyone in our community and in the aesthetic industry together.
