Today we’d like to introduce you to Rebecca Maldonado.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Ever since I was young, I’ve loved journaling, being creative, and keeping track of my experiences as a young adult. Over time, I stopped journaling and began blogging on and off throughout the years. Eventually, I began blogging as a way to share my experiences with the world. I was always getting questions about traveling, beauty, and fashion and decided it was time to really delve deep into blogging.
The last three years of my life were such growing periods (between moving to Orlando to work for Disney to moving to California) and blogging was just such a great way of documenting and sharing those major life moments with my readers. Now, blogging is the thing that feeds my creative urges, pushes my style, and has introduced me to so many wonderful people within the blogging community. I can’t imagine my life without my blog now!
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
One of the hardest things about blogging is learning not to compare yourself to other bloggers and Instagrammers. It can be so incredibly easy to fall into the numbers game – how many followers you have, how many likes you get, how many readers you have and so on. When I first started blogging, I was so shy and self-conscious about putting myself out there. I would also beat myself up if couldn’t put out a blog post every single week like I wanted to or didn’t have cute pictures to post to Instagram.
It can also be a little bit discouraging when you think you have to have a fancy camera to take photos with or don’t have designer bags to show off like other bloggers. Blogging has definitely helped me develop my own personal style because I have gained so much inspiration from different people but it’s so important not to compare yourself.
Honestly – HAVE FUN WITH IT! Blogging is just a great hobby to have. It’s a great way to get creative and try new things. Blogging has truly helped me grow my confidence and made me a much more outgoing person. I feel like those are the things you need to look for when you start blogging. How is it going to help you grow?
Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
My blog mainly focuses on helping women and creatives find their own personal style and voice. While I love talking about beauty projects and sharing hauls, I do also have a very soft spot in my heart for more personal thought pieces. Believe it or not, the thought pieces are some of my better-performing content. People want to see other genuine people! I think that’s what I pride myself on the most – being absolutely genuine. I love that I stand out amongst the sea of influencers simply because I choose to be myself. I love sharing my ups and downs. I love being vulnerable because I love showing others that messing up is a natural part of life!
Looking back on your childhood, what experiences do you feel played an important role in shaping the person you grew up to be?
Growing up, I had the most supportive parents. If I wanted to be a singer, they bought me a microphone. If I wanted to be an artist, they bought me art supplies. If I wanted to be a photographer, they bought me a camera. Having a support system around me definitely made all the difference in my upbringing. While I never had to suffer for anything, I do have a deeper understanding and appreciation for the things my parents did for me as a child and as a young adult. I realize not everyone has the same opportunity but I feel like this really set me up for creative success as an adult.
