Conversations with the Inspiring Sonia Aroso

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sonia Aroso.

Sonia, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
When I was growing up, my grandmother loved sewing making little dresses for me and my cousins, and I was always amazed at how she turned a piece of fabric into a beautiful dress, and so always watched her knit and sew when I visited her. When I was 8, she started teaching me embroidery and knitting to help her with her dresses. I picked up the hobby after that and did projects from time to time, mostly on vacations when I stayed with her all the way up to high school. When I graduated, I wanted to study abroad Fashion Design, but as many would see it is as a fairy tale career, I was encouraged by my parents to first try a more traditional career option, which I did eventually enroll in, majoring in Marketing. Right before I graduated, I got involved in an event called InnovaModa, which is an open event for designers in Mexico to show their collections and have some conferences by different fashion personalities. I also helped at a breast cancer acknowledgment campaign and dressed a 56 feet women monument. Earn my business major and enrolled in FIDM in Los Angeles, and getting my fashion degree. Made my internship at Halston Heritage in Evening Dress Design. Won a scholarship to a Fashion Program named Into The Industry (ITI) in NY for a week. Worked in other fashion business as an accessory designer, in a clothing manufacturer as lead designer. And in 2018, started SONIA AROSO my bridal project with the opening of my studio in 2019.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No, but the bumps and curves are part of the fun ride. At first, it’s stressful but the creativity of the brain always have a solution for everything. Take your space to breath and let the solution comes by. So, just keep the game in the brain and the focus on your passion.

What do you do, what do you specialize in, what are you known for, etc. What are you most proud of? What sets you apart from others?
I design and confection bridal, bridesmaids, flower girls and special event dresses. Every dress is different, each dress is uniquely designed by the story and characteristics behind every beautiful woman. So, I create a unique pattern made with every characteristic, hand embroidered, draped, sewn with a lot of passion, time and out-looking every detail to make it as special as the women using it.

It would be great to hear about any apps, books, podcasts or other resources that you’ve used and would recommend to others.
Life has taught me that every kind of information and experience is incredibly valuable. Inspiration comes from everywhere, so I try to gather as much as I can from many different subjects; from art and fashion memoirs to biology, biographies, business, technology, politics and novels. Also I really enjoy to listen different kinds of music and podcast from GirlBoss and Imagined Life.
