Conversations with Audrey Herrington

Today we’d like to introduce you to Audrey Herrington.

Hi Audrey, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I have been connected with my sense of smell since I was a sweet little human, running around the kitchen with the fennel spice jar. Something like fate brought me to Aroma Workshop, a custom perfume boutique, during my time living in Chicago, and from there I couldn’t get enough. Apparently, everyone else felt the same way as I was followed down the street several times by people needing to know what perfume I was wearing, which of course was a personal creation of mine.

The range and depth of perfume and aromatic extractions from the flowers and plants living around us is an art form that is modern day magic. Through working with a mentor, devouring books and information about perfume, plus working 1:1 with people to create their own personalized essence I became transfixed with the alchemy of perfume making. Years into being a perfumer, I uncovered an ancient Egyptian book describing planetary connections with musical notes, crystals, and namely the plant kingdom.

In that moment, I decided I had to make Zodiac perfumes with the aligned essential oils, encompassing everything I’ve learned to date. Turns out the Zodiac Collection are a hit, and I continue to experience the joy and connection individuals find through discovering the scents of their astrology! Creating worlds with scent is my way of sharing healing with the world, and to inspire others to be their own healer.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
From the shifting climates of the world, to over-harvesting and production practices it is challenging to find ethical, current, and quality raw materials for my perfumes, and skincare. I want to offer unique aromatic worlds with free range of materials to work with, but the reality is nature is the main instructor to what ingredients I can use in my creations.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am known for my Astrology Fragrance Collection, and the unique quality of the formulations and multimedia production that goes along with each product I share. I love multi-sensory play, and attempting to convey a smell through visual and musical art. I love writing and sourcing poetry that peaks interest, and gets the creative juices flowing of anyone consuming my work, so that it inspires others to create from their imagination. I have a high regard for collaboration and am proud of the art that flows when working together with other creatives.

The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
Commit to the work that creates joy in oneself, and in others. Regardless of opposing views, find points of connection with people as a radical form of immunity.
