Conversations with Christy Bennett

Today we’d like to introduce you to Christy Bennett.

Hi Christy, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I have autism and hearing loss, and I started off attending a film and media program for people with disabilities called Options for All back in 2019 and graduated during the pandemic in December of 2020. However, that was not all that happened in 2020. In 2020 during the pandemic, I started an online music blog called Shiningbind Band Talk where I took the tools I learned back at Options for All and incorporated into my blog. I do music and album analysis, news along with interviews with musicians and crew.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There have been some bumps in the road. I felt really depressed and down when the pandemic hit and was a mental mess until I started my blog which was a total lifesaver and kept me busy during the hardships. I even did little side projects involving a Nikki Sixx doll I got custom made a while back. Moreover, learning to do stop motion all while my blog had to be put on hold due to moving, but picking it back up with new segments and soon new interviews.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a music blogger. I blog not only news, but I analyze and review songs and albums as well as interview musicians as well as crew. The interview I am most proud of is interviewing Ace Von Johnson from LA Guns because it was a fun interview and also, he helped me with a little side audio class project I did back at Options For All by doing a voice over because he is also a voice actor asides being a musician.

Who else deserves credit in your story?
Yes, I truly would like to thank my mentor, Time Ends, because he has taught me a lot about the film and media industry as well as teaching how to think outside the box and networking. I also like to thank my mom because she has been a huge support for me since day one and loves me unconditionally. I also like to thank my best friend, Jessie Patton, because without her, I would be lost and whenever I feel down and lost, she always picks me back up. Thank you guys so much for your support!
