Conversations with Denise Williams

Today we’d like to introduce you to Denise Williams.

Hi Denise, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Hi. My name is Denise Williams. I am a lifestyle blogger and the face behind LifeWithDenise.com. I started this lifestyle blog during the pandemic when my priorities began to shift. I found myself steering away from the standard career in healthcare that I began in to a career allowing more freedom. It was extremely important for me to be able to not only enjoy what I am doing in life workwise but also having the freedom to spend more time with the most important things in my life: my husband and family.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Venturing into a completely different field that I had no experience in was not a smooth road. There are many people that will doubt what you are doing or have things to say that may not feel optimistic or encouraging. I had to push past that negativity and lean on my husband for support. He has always been my biggest fan and helped keep me focused on my goals.

The world of digital creation is also a huge learning curve. Because my blog encompasses different sub-niches within the larger niche of lifestyles, such as fashion, beauty, and dairy/gluten-free cooking, I have had to learn different writing styles and photography techniques for each. Not everything is written the same way in each genre, and not every photo is taken each way, depending on if it is a fashion shoot or a cooking video. My husband and sister took the time to learn how to use professional photography equipment for each shoot, and this has allowed us to keep my blog in the family without having to outsource professional photographers which tend to be pricey.

This leads me to my third struggle: the initial investment. The lifestyle blog itself was not expensive to begin. However, to produce quality, professional images that would attract brands and customers to both my Instagram, @realdenisewilliams, and my website, LifeWithDenise.com, required the purchase of expensive photography equipment. We noticed a huge improvement in the quality of our photos and even turned one of our bedrooms into a full home photography studio. This allowed us more flexibility and the ability to create the quality images for our readers that you currently see on social media and my website.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
As a lifestyle blogger, I specialize in creating digital content that will engage readers on both my social media outlets and my website. I follow many fashion brands and do all the challenging work for you. I curate my feed and website with the latest trends in fashion, and I make sure to offer the readers affordable options, as well. I think many people cannot relate or picture themselves in certain types of clothing when it is constantly being advertised by models and celebrities because they do not see themselves in these people. To be able to bring this fashion into a more normalized light for others on my website and social media allows them to feel as if they too can wear that fashion.

I always stay true to myself and believe in authenticity, so I will never wear or promote anything that is not of excellent quality and/or that I would not wear myself. My fans know that I am brutally honest and so they can expect that genuine voice to come through when I am suggesting products. If you ask me, this is what truly sets me apart from others. Some people just want to write a story for clickbait or suggest products that they themselves would never wear just so that they can monetize. You can expect that everything that I put out there in digital form for my followers is genuinely something that either I already use or will use because I believe in that product so much to put my stamp of approval on it.

I think one of the most fulfilling and exciting things that I am doing is my culinary work. I have always been that girl that loves to cook or teach my friends and family new recipes that I have made up in my kitchen. I noticed early in the pandemic that people can really use the help in cooking. I started filming a lot of my cooking and posting it to my Instagram, and so many people started asking me for my recipes.

I realized that I had something good here and that I should just start a website and document my journey. I have gluten, and dairy food allergies, and my journey into that lifestyle was particularly difficult for me giving the scarcity in food options. I knew that if I’m having to make my own gluten and dairy-free versions of recipes, then there must be so many others that just want to eat a decent, good meal without feeling horrible after eating it due to their various food allergies.

It has been exciting to evolve my cooking into healthier options that still taste great and do not leave you thinking you are missing out on a particular food. That is what I am most proud of. To be able to embark on a healthy food journey and help others along the way has been one of the most fulfilling things in this journey thus far.

What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
I believe my resilience and refusal to give up no matter what obstacle is placed in front of me has been the most important to my success. When I start something, I finish it. If I do not understand something, I learn. And if this takes me twenty out of the full twenty-four hours in one day, you better believe I will take those twenty hours to learn it…day in and day out until I get it. I have been known to fall asleep on the floor next to my desktop after long hours of learning just because I did not want to go to bed and stop. That resilience has gotten me far, not only in this journey but for life in general. When you lead with resiliency, and you do not give up, that consistency always pays off.
