Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennifer Ikel.
Hi Jennifer, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I had always wanted to do something creative and be my own boss. I had a career in mortgage banking and was getting burned out, then my company moved, which meant a much longer commute. That was the push I needed to pursue my dream job of owning my own wedding floral business. It has been more successful than I could have ever imagined.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Thankfully I had the full support of my wonderful husband. I quickly realized I was going to have to make an investment in advertising, and when I did that. I was committed to paying for a year. Let me tell you, that was a scary thought. But, within the first month, I booked a wedding that almost covered my whole first year of advertising. In my first year of business, I did around 35 weddings. It was incredible.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I create beautiful floral arrangements for one of the most important days in a couple’s life. I pride my self with being able to bring a brides (or grooms) vision to life in a unique way, all the while working within there budget, big or small.
Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
I’m not sure it was a lesson or more of a reaffirmation of what I always knew, customer service is key! It is talked a lot about in my reviews. It is so important to answer your emails and phone calls immediately, even if it is to say, “I am working on a wedding and will get back to you tomorrow.” Brides just want to know you are paying attention to them and want to help make their wedding day perfect!
