Conversations with Neha Gupta-Ednie

Today we’d like to introduce you to Neha Gupta-Ednie.

Hi Neha, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
Ever since I was growing up in India & Dubai, I was always inclined to art and design. I also grew up in a very creative family. Even in school, I always participated in competitions and won prizes, and that was something that always inspired me to create unique designs. My grandmother who was also an artist taught and encouraged me to pursue it further. She used to make dolls to support her family as a mother of two and always made framed art or knitted “creative wearables” for her friends and family on every occasion, even until the very end.

I have trained and worked as an interior and graphic designer for over 10 years and launched my own company – Artnehtion in 2019 in New York. I had taken a lot of art and photography classes in Dubai and New York.

When I started to travel before the pandemic, I just started to take photographs as a hobby and in that process, I fell in love with different cultures and their arts. Artnehtion came out as a beautiful result of that experience. I never imagined becoming a photographer; my goal was to capture & best depict what I saw in these places. To my surprise, when people close to me saw those pictures on my Instagram profile, they really loved and appreciated them. That is when it occurred to me that this could be something that people may want to decorate their own homes with. At the time, travel was trending on social media so I decided to launch Artnehtion.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Owning a business is never an easy process and it definitely looks easier than you realize. I used to do design consulting for large brands. I designed many stores and projects for renowned companies and high profile brands from around the world like Ralph Lauren, Lancome, La Mer, to name a few. That’s when I thought of creating my own product range as I had to channel my  creativity into something of my own.

Investing in yourself is always scary and still is, but what people don’t tell you is that you can do it at  your own pace while working on other things. I am still learning how to grow the brand and expand my business to the heights I want it to be at so it’s an ongoing process but I love that it’s my own process and no one else can appreciate it but myself!

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I love traveling and capturing the places I travel to through my lens. I also love to paint and designing patterns inspired from my travels. During the pandemic, I decided to sketch some elements from some of my favorite places that I visited and then print them on face masks. For example, the windmills which are very popular in the islands of Greece or the leaning tower of Pisa in Italy. These ideas inspired me to start sketching and playing around.

These masks inspired from unique elements of popular travel destinations around the world were my best-selling products for the last 2 years during the pandemic. I also collaborated with my former barre studio The Bar Method to do a limited edition mask inspired from their Brooklyn studio which used to be near my house.

After a few years of learning and research, I now have a wide array of my own products on my online store along with some collaborative limited edition products with other artists that I have had the pleasure of working with.

I’ve also sold my products at local marketplaces, stores, and on other websites back in the east coast and now looking for the next step to expand Artnehtion in San Diego County on the West Coast!

You can visit our website and our Instagram and Facebook handle is  @artnehtion to see what we’re up to and our product assortment with more to be uploaded on there!

What matters most to you? Why?
Travel has been a major part of my life in the past decade. Ever since I studied the history of art and architecture in my undergrad, I was so in awe of all the different ancient art and architecture that we have always heard of or seen in movies. I am glad I could go to so many wonderful places before the pandemic, but I still have more to see.

I founded the company as a means to promote travel, and art and to help others as well. That has always been a part of my personality. Even as a child, I always tried helping other causes in one way or another, from environmental groups to the care of stray dogs. These things made me the  happiest. So, I donate a part of Artnehtion’s profits every year to make our world a better place.

So far, I have donated to many causes around the world, and one of the main ones is to help keep our oceans clean. Also, I have donated masks to healthcare professional like doctors and nurses in the U.S.

I also ship all my products nationally and internationally through

  • Art products ranging from $10 – $299
