Today we’d like to introduce you to Areeba Ahmed.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
A statement often heard by influencers – “I was terrified that people will judge me”. It wasn’t any different for me either. I got started into influencing in January 2022 however I’ve been wanting to do this since summer 2021! I’ve always been into taking pictures, curating an aesthetic feed, and the most fun part: putting outfits together for the pictures. Hence, when I got started, I figured out my niche right away and that was primarily fashion. The thoughts that always prevented me from taking a step into this field included “The industry is too saturated” or perhaps “I don’t live THAT GIRL lifestyle; I’ll be a failure”. Well, that’s what I want to prove wrong. What if it’s too saturated, I’m unique. My style is unique. As humans, we all bring something unique to their audience. This mentality made me reach where I am today. Surrounded by an amazing supportive community of 1.8K followers on Instagram, several opportunities to collaborate with my dream brands like Mejuri, and just a fulfilling career I was always passionate about!
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
As a student myself, balancing everything gets a little hectic oftentimes. Consistency is key and it’s a gradual process, it doesn’t come right away. In all honesty, getting started was the hardest part but once you’re out there, opportunities are sitting right at your door. Having to expert Instagram’s and TikTok’s algorithms is another struggle which doesn’t really have a solution. POST! POST! POST! in my dictionary, that’s the only solution. Oftentimes, you will get discouraged seeing poor engagement on posts you spent hours on, but it’s part of a process! Don’t give up!
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
It’s always incredible to see your vision come to life. I use creative tools in all my side hustles. As a fashion lover, I design clothes and store my whole collection in a sketchbook hoping to create my own brand in the future and seeing those ideas come to life. I also love curating my Instagram feed assuring everything blends in smoothly and coherently. If you’re planning to take your Instagram seriously, use PLANOLY to set your feed before posting it. I love how my creativity can be used in so many different ways!
What do you like and dislike about the city?
Living in Montreal is a lot like living in Paris really, whether it’s in terms of architecture of Old Port and St Catherine or it’s the cute cafés on every street serving croissants and lattés! However, the dominance of French language in Quebec as a whole often becomes an obstacle for anglophones like me, leaving us limited opportunities for universities and jobs.
