Daily Inspiration: Meet Asia Banks

Today we’d like to introduce you to Asia Banks.

Hi Asia, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I grew up in Charlotte, NC. I didn’t really have much but I stayed in school and was determined to graduate. Music is what woke me up, it was a light to my path. I started making music as young as six years old. As I got older, things wasn’t the best in my household. I was kicked out at an early age and had to survive in the streets of Charlotte. I didn’t know where my next meal would come from or where I would lay my head. I still worked hard and still stayed focused with my music. Fast forward to today, I am still standing by my music and growing my fanbase everyday. My future moves are moving to Jacksonville, FL and push my music out there. I’m gonna shoot a lot more videos and do a lot more shows. I have been through hell and back but I’m still here, still standing… I really got it out of the MUD! Nobody said the journey would be easy!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
No, not at all… I started out doing music and wasn’t many people making music back then… but along the course, I witnessed people change, switch up, and stab me right in my back. I’ve seen promoters rip over artists, videographers rip over artists, etc. This is definitely a dirty game to play… People who knew me, who grew up with me wouldn’t support me, wouldn’t show me no love. I used to want to give up on all of this but something in me just wouldn’t let me. And it was when I started gaining fans outside of my city that let me know that I am greater than just being a local.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m an artist. My artist name is AB Reallywitdat. I specialize in writing songs and recording. I am my own Campaign with a good family behind me called MHF. I am most proud of my growth from listening to my music from back when I first started out to now. I have found my sound and my progression will only get better. What sets me apart from other artists is I am humble. I’m not looking to snake anybody just for the spotlight. I have patience I know that I am dope and that I am talented. I know one day I will sell-out shows, But until then, I am just manifesting and speaking life into my dreams

What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
Street smarts and Book Smarts are key. Street smarts because with the music industry, a lot of folks are mainly street. You gotta know who is tryna get over, who is tryna run game vs who is actually tryna help you and wanna see you win. Book smarts because you gotta be able to read into ways to make money off of your music. You gotta know how to calculate revenue coming in and keeping up with all the legal documentation of the music business.
